“Starkology” – Review Of Ghostface Killah’s Apollo Kids

12.24.10 Written by TC

When Ghostface Killah likened himself to Ironman in the beginning stages of his career, he probably wasn’t implying that he would outlast his peers of the past, present and future when it came to Hip-Hop’s line of employment. However, here we are—numerous solo and group LPs alongside countless guest appearances—in 2010 with Tony Starks still prospering in the business, thanks to enthusiastic loyalists who lend him an ear whenever he asks to be heard. Ghostface Killah Feat. Raekwon, Method Man & Redman – “Troublemakers” (Prod. By Jake One)

Supreme Clienteleeeee!!! Ain’t no love to be found…

Oh wait? What’s that you say? “Buck 50” was a decade ago? Then what is this rough, raw and rugged audio dope that is stimulating and so to pleasing my ear drums? It’s hypnotizing yet so grimy like a throwback to the days when a hoodie and ice grill was enough to freeze any posturing lame in their tracks trying to sugarcoat the realness. Christmas With Def Jam 2010

11.19.10 Written by TC

Without the proper buzz window and overdriven promotion, releasing an album in these dire times could be a wasted effort. Good thing the folks over at Def Jam have a bulletproof blueprint that no penny pincher can shoot down. By deviously planting unforeseen albums in stores during the holiday hustle-n-bustle, they’re bound to scan a few discs just of the principality. Let’s envision the scenario: Read the rest of this entry »

The iPod Shuffle – “Buck 50″

“Supercalifragalisticexpialidocious/Dociousaliexpifragalisticcalisuper/Cancun, catch me in the room, eatin grouper…”

Pretty gutter track, but Ghost’s line above never fails to crack me up due to its randomness. Matter of fact, only he’d spit fly shit while everyone else around him is throwing lyrical body punches at every opportunity. Read the rest of this entry »

Raekwon Breaks Down The Wu-Ography

07.06.10 Written by TC

When considering the best qualifying member of the Wu-Tang Clan to give a thorough analysis of every project they’ve conceived, the RZA easily bests his brothers, seeing that he oversaw each compilation as a general and executive producer. Seeing that Raekwon has adopted the role of the Clan patriarch as of late, his input is highly valued in 2010. Read the rest of this entry »

The iPod Shuffle – “P.L.O. Style”

05.16.10 Written by Gotty™

I can’t get no satisfaction, aggins won’t be lastin’ long, unless they get protection, for real…”

This wasn’t the original song that I planned to post. It was between spotlighting this and “Release Yo’ Delf” but it wasn’t like either one was going to be a loser. The uptempo pace of “Release…” is good, but Meth and weed carrier Carlton Fisk caught ultimate wreck on this one. Read the rest of this entry »

“It’s That Wu Sh*t” – Review Of Wu-Massacre

04.06.10 Written by TC

Let’s face it: there will never be another Wu-Tang Clan. The legacy, impact and influence the populous collective from Staten Island have engraved in the culture’s skin has hardened and scabbed over, leaving an eternal brand. If you trace along the lines of the “W” tattoo, the rich history of the Clan tells many tales. Like any movement, there were triumphs and tragedies and the in-between that saw several of the members become less than relevant. Read the rest of this entry »

Method Man, Ghostface Killah & Raekwon – “Miranda”

03.16.10 Written by TC

Ms. Miranda follows in the promiscuous footsteps of Camay, Yolanda and Maxine of shorty doo-wops that have been blazed by the Almighty Wu. For their next trick (get it?), Meth, Ghost & Rae will pass your kid sister around like sour diesel for the street single to Wu-Massacre. Read the rest of this entry »

Masta Killa Feat. GZA – “Duel of the Iron Mic” (Live)

02.24.10 Written by Gotty™

Up from the 36 Chambers, perhaps literally, oft-forgotten member Masta Killa picks up on the recent Wu renaissance & prepares to release Live, his first album in five years. Carrying on the Clan’s tradition of amplified live performances (See: their work with El Michels Affair), Live features tracks from No Said Date as well as Masta Killa’s appearances on essential tracks throughout Wu’s catalog, including “Duel of the Iron Mic,” “Guillotine” and “Mystery of Chessboxin’.” Listening to “Duel…,” the only thing missing from this recording is a stage of a full of Shaolin soldiers/weed carriers, a crowd full of white people and everyone throwing up their W’s in mass.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

“Enter The Magical Mystery Chambers…”

02.06.10 Written by K1NG

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of The Beatles. I have a company named after one of the member’s songs and own practically all their albums on vinyl. There’s also a pretty good chance that I’m a Wu-Tang fan considering Hip-Hop was my first love and the fact that I’m still breathing. Both groups changed the face of their musical genre upon entering the spotlight. The Beatles being one of the first studio bands to do all original music on their albums and The Wu coming out with nine dope MC’s on one roster.

Considering these factors, my feelings were mixed when I came across Tea Sea Record’s Wu-Tang Vs. Beatles mash-up album a couple of weeks ago. On one hand, I couldn’t wait to check it out, but on the other I feared how corny and forced it may turn out. Reluctantly, during one of my eight hour shifts at work, I finally pressed play on my iPod. To my surprise, the next 37 songs went by so smooth it felt like it was an original production.

One thing that Tom Caruana did that made it such an enjoyable listen is not pander to either audience. While the Beatle’s influence was apparent, it wasn’t in your face to the point where it distracted from the razor sharp lyrics from Shaolin’s finest, and the Wu verses he utilized were not just the ones everybody and their grandmother knows. In all honesty, I enjoyed this album much more than Danger Mouse’s mash-up effort The Grey Album. That’s saying something.

So if you were skeptical at first like I was and are looking for a reason to download, allow me to be your recommender. It’s very well done and worth the disk space.
