Forget the very real possibility of a NBA lockout for the moment. David Stern has been using this offseason to make sure he keeps his league in the news. One thing we’ve learned about the NBA this summer is that they apparently have a thing for TV specials. Stern may have not been the biggest fan of LeBron’s version, but he’s obviously a supporter of the results it produced. D.C. is a proud sports town, even given the fact they haven’t won anything of significance since the ‘Skins 1991 Superbowl. This summer, however, has allowed the residents and the surrounding areas of Chocolate City to build some sense of hope. They’ve still got the best hockey player on the planet in Alex Ovechkin. Mike Shanahan and Donovan McNabb are allegedly going to lead the Redskins to the promised land. Steven Strasburg is hands down the hottest ticket in town. The original story, leaked by the New York Post, appears to have totally misconstrued what happened. Yet, the story ran anyway as timeliness took precedence over fact-checking. This past Wednesday night, my homie Vaughan and I were in attendance (upper deck, $10 student tickets) to watch King James and company take on the local NBA franchise, the Washington Wizards. Here’s five things I experienced and/or learned:

1. The people of D.C. HATE LeBron with a passion. Almost as if he is the reason for the small slice of hell known as “five o’clock traffic.”

2. The people of D.C. likely hate me now because I’m a fan of dude. I was called everything but the word that starts with a “N” and rhymes with “trigger.” Yeah, the one with “e-r” on the end, not “a.” When they found out I was Cowboys fan too, it got even uglier lol. Read the rest of this entry »

Since the last basketball-related post I did was lambasted, I figured I’d throw up something undisputed.

Thanks to Will “The Thrill” Bynum and his Spud Webb-like vertical, my Detroit Pistons have been plastered all over ESPN for good reason. I was watching the game live last night and actually missed this early dunk-of-the-year candidate by a split second, as I was screwing around with this friggin’ place, but luckily my man George Blaha got excited enough for all of us. Not to mention, Willy B did it AGAIN in the third (without posterizing Tyson Chandler, however).

The NBA Season is still young and TSS is keeping the ball in play. We hit you off with the West, now it’s time to bicker about the Eastern Conference Standings. The East is has a top heavy talent pool but it’s full of compelling storylines that’ll keep you tuned in. The Celtics are back, healthy and ready for another run at the chip. Meanwhile LBJ is still climbing for the mountain top while Orlando knows what it takes to get there. But screw all that serious stuff. Gilbert Arenas is back ladies and gentlemen.
