
After seven years in obscurity, Walmart put up the white flag and decided to close the virtual doors to its mp3 store. In a dreary statement, the retailer explained “After eight years in business, the Walmart Music Downloads Store located at mp3.walmart.com will close on August 28, 2011. All content in the Store will be disabled and no longer available for download from the store.” To put it all in perspective, Walmart was bringing up the tail end in digital music sales, raking in one percent industry share and ranking behind companies like Napster.
