An arduous grind, numerous mixtape releases, a BET cypher and G.O.O.D. Music over everything is what lead Sean Anderson to this point where he can kick his feet up and enjoy the fruits of his labor with his debut studio effort, Finally Famous: The Album. Read the rest of this entry »
Since nobody’s perfect, we figured this unreleased Mimi could get some burn.
After all, getting wine wasted and acting an ass at awards shows isn’t all bad (lie). Neither is marryingNick Cannon (lie). So, Mimi, if Tricky Stewart brings some of strings epic enough for a battle intro in the 300 sequel–and the best you can come up with is this aptly-titled ode to incorrect–well, that’s alright (lie). If I had to pick my favorite album of any genre last year it would have to be The-Dream’sLove Vs. Money. I know, I’m just as surprised as you are. The man just knows how to make a hit with seemingly no effort. “Love King” is the title track and first single from his new album and dammit…I’m excited. Read the rest of this entry »
Seemingly out of nowhere, Willie Beaman just dropped a hit with a presumptive pink slip called, “Quit Your Job.” I imagined that in between banging married white women and installing more mirrors in his mansion, Jamie might have a hard time matching the success of “Blame It,” but this perfectly produced ditty about ditching the 9-to-5 by Grammy-Award-winning-producer Tricky Stewart is guaranteed to have half the planet singing along in the economy we’re in. Yeah, yeah yeah! You can say whatever but this song is fiya. Whether or not Def Jam failed with promoting it or Rated R properly is completely irrelevant at this point. Our dearest Riri, queen of GQ, is off frolicking in the mud like some ancient civilization vixen only the kings could get their hands on. Strutting around like she’s the commander-in-chief; keeping her soldiers at attention in more ways than one. Read the rest of this entry »
Well you knew the IDJ wouldn’t let Rihanna get all “restricted” without a proper single to keep the registers ringing. “Russian Roulette” was the risqué warm-up, but this joint right here is the sure shot. Read the rest of this entry »
I saw Jamie Foxx in concert last week and although the performances were considerably less than spectacular, there’s no denying the magic the studio creates for him…I mean magic he creates…aw hell. Just watch the video.
It’s been roughly three weeks since Jabari put me on to Justin Bieber. After an investigation that would put “Law & Order” and “CSI” to shame (aka a simple Google search), the offspring of a single mother from Stafford, Ontario, seems poised, primed and nurtured to follow in the steps of so many before him as the next teen prodigy. Similar to the strategy used by the OG DeAndre Way, Bieber’s hustle has been viral and the over 30 million YouTube views only crack the surface. Along with those impressive statistics, it’s his famous co-sign which has caught the attention of quite a few people, including myself.
Singer/songwriter/producer Usher introduced his teen protégé, Justin Bieber, to Los Angeles tastemakers yesterday (April 27) during a sit-down lunch at The Sunset Tower Hotel.
Currently recording his Island Records debut in Atlanta, the 15-year-old Bieber is already at radio with the Chris “Tricky” Stewart-produced single “One Time.” A video for the song was shot yesterday. Additional songwriting/production collaborators thus far include The-Dream and Midi Mafia. The album, titled “My World,” is slated for release later this year.
Barring any comparisons or predictions, the kid has a solid backing and with Usher, The-Dream, Tricky Stewart and more providing oversight of his first project (currently entitled My World), I’d feel confident about him, too. Even before Ush, one of his original fans included Scooter Braun, the same guy who helped make Asher’s Roth’s infatuation with higher education a reality.
“He [Braun] was very, very persistent,” Bieber says. “He even called my great aunt and my school board.”
Braun flew Bieber to Atlanta and met with Usher, who then took Bieber to sing for Island Def Jam CEO Antonio “L.A.” Reid. Braun says Reid found it uncanny that “Justin was the same exact age as Usher when he was signed.”
Nevermind the fact he’s already got his age group sewn up, his most endearing quality is the soul he encompasses at 16, as apparent in the above video. Claims of the “next Justin Timberlake” may seem like a stretch currently, but given the chance to maximize that same quality (and one or two dance sequences just for kicks), the music industry could be looking at its next pop megastar. With that said, TMZ likely already has a Justin Bieber/Molly Cyrus rumor on deck.
