Xzibit Feat. Trick-Trick – “Highest Form Of Understanding (H.F.O.U.)”

09.28.10 Written by TC

Mr. X to tha Z has less than 3 months to get his MMX off the ground or that album title will go for naught. And no way a Beach Boys sample comes for cheap so…yeah. Chop, chop Mr. Joiner. On the flipside, “Highest Form Of Understanding (H.F.O.U.)” finds a meditative Xzibit gnawing over the memories of yesteryear with feverish flashbacks of persistence and failure. They say you have to know where you’ve been to know where you’re going and X’s understanding of this is simply a mental zenith. Read the rest of this entry »

Black Milk Is Pure Michigan

01.24.10 Written by Beware

As our economy here in Michigan currently resides alongside Splinter and the TMNT gang in the sewer, Governor Granholm and her old fogy cronies have enlisted some of the Dirty Mitten’s most notable faces to clean up our image and bring customers back to the Great Lakes State: Coach Izzo, Mitch Albom, The Captain and a few unrecognizable big-wig business-types who know Bo Diddly about sports. Then, rather surprisingly, at the :22 mark is none other than chronic Tronic delivery man Black Milk, promoting what else but ‘Fresh Milk!’ The b-roll of his voice may last longer than his grill, but the fact that Black simply got the nod amongst local gods shows that Popular Demand couldn’t have been more true.

I wonder why Trick Trick didn’t get the look?

*Imagines Trick posted 100-deep on 7 Mile and Mack standing over bodies of bloody rappers, hoisting those bazookas from “Can’t Fuck Wit My City” and proudly yelling, “Fire Power!”*

“Blog These Nuts, Bitch!”

03.04.09 Written by Beware

I know I just said how I’m sick of watching rappers yap about nothing via their weak viral game, but I had to post this.

In this Hot 102.7 in-studio video with MC Serch, our favorite villain Trick Trick absolutely goes off on the industry, specifically Koch Records, for not showing any love to his album or Detroit artists in general. Somewhere in between his frustration and blatant threats, the man does have a legitimate point, as his solid sophomore album The Villain wasn’t marketed at all and slept-on as a result.

I have a feeling the abbreviated editing on this was completely necessary.

The Goonies

02.06.09 Written by TSSCrew

Words by Khalid Strickland

In the wacky world of Hip-Hop some artists are known more for scrappin’ than for rappin’. These predators rarely drop albums — music taking a backseat to their aggressive antics — but they make the rap game a lot more colorful by keeping the pretenders in check. With their genuine street credibility, prison-yard tactics and itchy trigger-fingers, the Goonies of Hip-Hop have created an entertaining niche in the genre. Here are eight in particular who have already left their mark.

Alfamega

When you look up the word “goon” in the rap dictionary, you’ll find those now-infamous pictures of T.I.’s Grand Hustle muscle Alfamega spazzin’ out on Shawty Lo’s crew at last year’s Dirty Awards. In those photos, especially the one where he’s smiling as he tussles with an overmatched cop, you can tell that Alfamega was having a good time; he shrugged-off a blast of pepper spray to the face like it was spearmint Binaca. With a lead-fisted shot to the dome, Mega left a Shawty Lo associate snoozing on the floor during T.I. and Grand Hustle’s performance at the Awards show.

The televised incident may earn him another bid in the bing, but his commissary should be stacked for a job well done. Aspiring rappers take note: It doesn’t matter how well you rhyme, how many chicks you bag and how much jewelry you rock. Your crew isn’t complete without a ninja like Mega in the stable.

Trick Trick

What separates Detroit’s own Trick Trick from most of his contemporaries is that he actually put an album out (a decent one at that); an impressive feat for a professional goon. His latest LP, The Villain, is in stores now. But although the album features heavy-hitters like Ice Cube, Eminem and a posthumous appearance by D-12’s Proof, it’s a mere footnote in Trick Trick’s untouchable gangster resume. “Who Want It” – Review Of Trick Trick’s The Villain

11.29.08 Written by TC

Hardcore Hip-Hop has taken a hit since it’s mid-9o’s heyday, where rappers tried their best to be equally creative as crass. Gaining attention for the Motor City with his 2005 single “Welcome 2 Detroit,” featuring a then, red-hot Eminem, Trick Trick made a name for himself in the dwindling pool of strident MCs that defy the laws of “cashing in.” Fast forward three years and Trick Trick has a new bag treats for his sophomore project The Villain backed behind 100 proof verbal barbs and equally forcible production. But despite moralistic intentions, the album has its fair share of internal incongruity that pull the project to the middling proportions. Read the rest of this entry »
