Video: Yelawolf – “No Hands” (Warped Tour Edition)

09.13.11 Written by TC

Life on the road can be very dentrimental to some, but when you’re glowing with that highly hazardous antimatter known as talent, it just adds fuel to your toxicity. That is the mess Yelawolf has made for himself on the Hard White Tour which you can see has plenty of jackass moments, mosh pits and good ‘ol fashion rap-n-roll. Read the rest of this entry »

Bruno Mars Feat. Cee-Lo Green & B.o.B – “The Other Side”

05.06.10 Written by Gotty™

After holding it down for others and gaining a good bit of shine in the process, we all know who Bruno Mars is by now. Or do we? With prominent placements alongside B.o.B and Travie, on “Nothing…” and “Billionaire” respectively, the crooner has made himself recognizable quickly. Yet, I’ve wondered how he’d fair solo and if he was going to specialize in the high-pitched, Terius Nash tone. Now, he’s begun pushing own product, his upcoming EP release It’s Better If You Don’t Understand so we’re about to get the answers we seek.

The first release, “The Other Side,” finds the new kid getting help from previous collaborator B.o.B but the more impressive part of the tune comes from Cee-Lo’s short appearance. Bruno doesn’t necessarily sound like the star of the track, yet you can tell its his song. Running alongside Mr. Green, it gives a better feel for Bruno’s voice, a measuring stick perhaps because we all know a singer has to belt out their verses in order not to be overshadowed by the portly Green’s bellows. Leaving the Black Jason Mraz comparisons behind momentarily, Mars brings forth a little more punch to his sound, matching Cee-Lo in soulfulness. In the end, “The Other Side” is quite the humdinger that should find a proper place the other hits Mars has amassed. However, this time his name will be listed first and remembered that way.

Below, the visuals for his featured spot with Travie McCoy for the aforementioned, big bucks song “Billionaire.” This one still hasn’t rightly grown on me but I see its lane for radio and fans.

Travie McCoy Feat. Bruno Mars – “Billionaire”

03.10.10 Written by Beware

In a recent interview with MTV, Gym Class Heroes’ front-man Travis McCoy said his upcoming album Lazarus is “music to have a good time to.” Seeing as I’ve downloaded, playlisted and repeatedly grooved shamelessly to the first single “Billionaire,” I’d like to approve the Nappy Boy’s message. “Don’t Regret It Now” – Review Of Tyga’s No Introduction

06.23.08 Written by Patrick M.

Like many new artists, L.A.’s Tyga is getting publicity more for who he knows than what he’s done. As the rumored cousin of Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy and the next big thing off of Lil’ Wayne’s Young Money imprint, Tyga’s got friends in high places. Friends only get you so far and on his debut release No Introduction, it’s up to Tyga to deliver quality music to ensure his self-proclaimed future stardom.

In that he’s failed, as the album is consistently devoid of musical worth. Vapidity is the central theme of both the production and lyrics. “First Timers” typifies the sugary feel of the album, as Tyga boringly tells a breakup story over a beat that manages to rip off both the Backstreet Boys and Slick Rick. Tyga spends too much time talking about teen angst, failing to connect with any listener who has left puberty behind. Entire tracks are dedicated to meeting girls online (the horrific “Aim”) and playing phone tag on voicemail (“Press 7″). All of these tracks feature a production style that derives itself from Avril Lavinge rather than Run-DMC; it’s really more teen pop than rap. In this context, a standard club-banger like “Coconut Juice” actually seems refreshing; at least it’s got the narcissism and beat style that fans are used to. Read the rest of this entry »

“Overdose On Life…”

06.06.08 Written by TSSCrew

Words By Jason Hortillas

You may have never heard of Omen but you’ve definitely heard his work.

The Harlem-bred producer has worked with artists such as Jae Millz, Fabalous, Mya and Keith Murray. Dude even scored an award for working on the Ludacris track “Tell It Like It Is” off of the Grammy award winning album Release Therapy. With all these accolades Omen hasn’t had his time to shine but that may soon change. Read the rest of this entry »
