Before any upcoming show, I usually immerse myself in the slated performer’s catalog. Right now, Talib’s the flavor of the month since the Gutter Rainbows tour comes to the ‘Ville on Cinco de Mayo. Trackstar passed us this one in the middle of his pre-SXSW mania. “Mic Check,” the first leak off the anticipated 80 Blocks From Tiffany’s collaboration features a boom bap-ish beat from Pete Rock that fulfills expectations. I started Boogie Bang as a way to showcase the talent I was seeing in St Louis, mixing local MCs with established artists. I borrowed the name from a Tef Poe song off Tech Supreme’s Beneath the Surface project, and didn’t necessarily anticipate doing a second volume at the time, let alone 25.
