Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia Announces Mixtape Collabo With DJ Scream

Juicy J is easily one of the most respected figures in the game for all he’s contributed to Hip-Hop but whomever gave him the idea that a mixtape would generate interest for his upcoming solo album Hustle Til’ I Die surely sold him a wolf ticket during a full moon.

Alright, no more parade thunderstorms. The original Juiceman teams up with DJ Scream, Project Pat, Gorilla Zoe and Gucci Mane to remind everyone why he’s The Realest Nigga In The Game.

“Talk Dat Gangsta” – Review Of Project Pat’s Real Recognize Real

02.23.09 Written by TC

When he’s not incarcerated, more than likely Project Pat’s in the studio crafting that ignorant shit his fans have grown to love for so many years. With no plans of slowing down for anybody but the law, Pat’s seventh album, Real Recognize Real bridges upon all the usual subjects the Memphis mack has built his career on without displaying superiority or slacking on his pimpin’ either. “Aye Oh, Get’em Shawty!”

02.03.09 Written by Gotty™

Some artists are not geared towards creating club music. These two tracks are about the closest thing you’ll get to adapted dance records by Mike. And I use the term “dance” loosely as if you refer to simply celebrating, throwing your hands in the air to a call & response track (“Aye Oh”) or knuckin, buckin in a crowded shady nightspot, the kind where jeans, sneakers & white tees are allowed (“Get’em Shawty”). “Make You Move” – Review Of Unk’s 2econd Season

11.06.08 Written by TC

Imagine everyone’s surprise when independent powerhouse Koch Records landed one of their biggest hits from an virtually unknown rapper with the name of Unk. With conventional wisdom out the window, Unk kicked off his career forcing half the nation to “Walk It Out” right before he showed them his “2 Step,” earning a spot amongst the newer hitmakers. Looking to prove he’s no fluke with the party favors, Unk’s back with 2econd Season, a lively mashup of crunk, call and response, and crassness which ranks high on ambition, low in terms of ingenuity. “I’d Rather…” – Review Of Three 6 Mafia’s Last 2 Walk

06.29.08 Written by MZ

Opportunity: noun 1. a favorable juncture of circumstances. 2. a chance for advancement or progress. [Merriam-Webster]

Opportunity is a finicky and unpredictable event, so one has to always be ready to strike when their moment arises. This occurred for Three 6 Mafia in 2005 when their break-out single “Stay Fly” dominated the airwaves and their song “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp,” garnered them an Oscar for Best Original Song. With all eyes on the group, what do they decide to do? Forgetting they won the Oscar for best song and not actor, DJ Paul & Juicy J headed west to Hollywood to pursue movie “opportunities.” The result was their short-lived reality show Adventures In Hollyhood. 2 ½ years later they finally return back to what opened the doors – the music, with the release of their oft-delayed album Last 2 Walk. Sadly the only redeeming value this album has is as a warning to those who fail the strike when the iron is hot. Read the rest of this entry »

“Pop That Body”

Triple 6 in their younger years…

Well, this is an unexpected turn of events.

There are two songs named “Lollipop” blowing up right now. Neither versions will win any spots in the annals of great lyrical showcases, but dammit they’re catchy as hell.

For my money, Triple 6′s version is more of a go-wild club hit than Wayne’s. The group’s energy is off the charts as usual, and it’s matched with a vocoder-laced hook. While Wayne’s version gets a little stagnant towards the middle with the constant “Lollipop” repetition, Three Six refuses to let the listener relax for a moment as the beat changes at about every sixteen bars and it’s easy to tell they’re experimenting/expanding their repertoire. Every verse has some sort of vocally-affected adlib to add depth to the rapper’s delivery, making each one stand out in a different way. Read the rest of this entry »

In Defeat…

Words By David D.

Unfortunate.

No, I’m not some bitter college fan whose bracket was destroyed by the game. I’m just a guy who likes to stick it to America like any other respectable human being.

And Memphis winning would have done that.

The team was full of young, African-American tatted-up males from varying backgrounds. They played a fast-paced, up and down game. The star of the team was a physical, scrappy kid who’s tenacity matched any one else on the court.

They only lost one game all season. Read the rest of this entry »
