Despite my budget trying to sway me otherwise, I plan on spending my Halloween getting sloshed with Chromeo X A-Trak X Theophilus London, for what my Chi-Town brethren says shall be the hottest concert in the land come October’s end. I expect to see all my Midwesterners there, pretending they can dance right along side me. Since it is Halloween, would it be ironic if we went as hipsters?

Nike Sportswear is putting on for NYC and the upcoming World Basketball Festival. This past weekend, the Swoosh sponsored a block party with artists and performers repping the city’s different boroughs — Corey Gunz (Bronx), BMX rider Nigel Sylvester (Queens), female artist Miss Banks (Harlem), Theophilus (Brooklyn) and the friend of ours, Emilio Sparks (Staten Island). Even though Theophilus’ “I Want You” video co-stars Glenn Aya Lovrich and is directed by Va$htie, the star of this musical scene is actually the song. Already brimming with seductiveness, the tune is only enhanced by the aforementioned elements, amplifying the sensual nature of it all. VA$HTIE’s birthday was one day last week so happy belated to her. To cap it off, there was a party @ Santos in honor of the birthday girl and I think it doubled as a released party for Theophilus’ I Want You mixtape. Relevance? Not much really, but really, don’t these kids just seem to live a great life? Plus, I f#cks with them both so you’re stuck dealing with my whims at times. The prime indicator that I’m head over heels in love with this particular mixtape? The fact that not only are we posting the front cover, we’re including the inner artwork as well. Unlike most, Theophilus’ mixtape is a work of art, bar code included or not, and it should be presented as one whole in order to help convey his message. Everything from paying respect to Marvin with the title (which immediately sets the bar high) and opening song cover to posing with the feline descendant of LL’s panther. It’s all here. VA$HTIE’s playing hostess. And we finally get the full and complete version of “Flying Overseas.”

Looking from the big picture point of view, I fully believe he’s one of those multi-talented artists who has the ability to help steer the course of music. Not just Hip-Hop. Music. With his arrangements, delivery and content, he’s cut from the same cloth of a few others I’m fond of – B.o.B., Dãm, etc. – who don’t necessarily fit into the narrow lanes of what’s expected, but manage to do the unexpected with grace. While they all may not make a mainstream impact, it will have a decided influence on your favorite artists. And just like Marvin’s I Want You played like a courtship between lovers, so does Theophilus’, be they lovers of music, life or anything in between.
