The Week That Was: Reloaded

Prescribing to Gotty’s™ “work smarter, not harder” mantra we present the revamped TWTW.  While y’all may have enjoyed our previous installments, they were taxing to say to least between coming up with a theme and compiling the links.  Sometimes it came easy, but it usually took a bit of time.  So as we head into 2k10, we’re scaling things back a bit and putting the focus back where it belongs: the week’s posts.

So without further adieu, here’s TWTW, back like it never left. Read the rest of this entry »

The Week That Was: The Country Club Edition

08.01.09 Written by MZ

We should’ve posted this video a few weeks ago, better late than never right?

I went golfing yesterday for the first time in about two years.  It was only 9 holes, but all things considered things went pretty well.  The ball went straight more often than not and I only lost one ball.  And if I had played 18 holes and by the grace of God managed to shoot a zero, I would’ve finished the day 2-under.  So in light of recent comments regarding TWTW , here’s my attempt to shake things up a bit.

First Hole/Sunday (Par 4):
We pulled out the 3 wood and knocked it straight down the fairway with footage of Kanye’s Fuse Concert.  While waiting for eskay to find his ball in the rough, we were able to brush up on our essential phrases in 36 languages to improve our chances of scoring with a muy bueno cooler chick.  With the help of our fairway wood we quickly added three more strokes (pause)in the form of DJ Steph Floss, Bilal and Alchemist settling on the green, 15 yards from the pin.  While haggling over the Lox’s pecking order, we two putted and headed off to the second hole.

Score: Double Bogey. Read the rest of this entry »

The Holiday Week That Was…

Usually we like to showcase these on the Saturday but seeing most folks were celebrating their Independence, how bout a little TWTW smack dab in your face as you re-enter reality? Unsurprisingly, the King of Pop still dominated headlines as Phonte preached some posthumous justice and his daddy…well…his daddy ain’t shit.

Sadly, MJ wasn’t the only thing D.O.A. news we had to deal as Vibe magazine and Steve McNair both checking out earlier than expected.  But life has it ups and downs and last week had more than enough positivity to help brace for the blows.

Christmas In July

– 50 Cent paid tribute to the King
– Novel painted pictures with his sound
Trackstar the DJ and Peter Rosenberg combined forces to deliver BB19 Read the rest of this entry »

First off, big salute to all the fathers out there. On the streets, at war, at work, hustling, locked up, who still find strength to maintain and still keep the babies. You’re raising the future. We doff our hats to you.

Back to our regular scheduled programming. What did you miss this week?

- The Lakers sonned whatever that other team was The Magic.

- Sa-Ra and Raheem DeVaughn provided more music to make more babies to.

- Killer Mike re-emerged to discipline you truant children.

- We looked back at the Jordan True Blues, the mack daddy of all sneakers, in my dishonest opinion.

- The good folks at Slaughterhouse embarrassed their children and entertained the rest of us with a little skit.

- Playboy Tre returned to the internet. No father pun here Read the rest of this entry »

It’s been another long week around here and things started out in a BIG way.  By big, we mean Tahiry big, as the photos leaked for her TahiryTV website.  People across the net simaltaneously rejoiced and began the countdown ’til she kicks Joe to the curb.  Not be outdone, T-Pain unveiled his Big Ass Chain, literally.  Jay performed DOA at Summer Jam, as he looked to end another “era” in Hip-Hop.  Trackstar continued his RMF Radio movement, while Contra™ played watchdog at The National Spelling Bee. The Week That Was: Comments Appreciation Week

04.11.09 Written by MZ

Normally when we break the week down we go through and pick what we deem worthy of being highlighted again or feel was missed the first time. But in reality, your remarks play a big part in what we around here and this week our comments section had the internets going nuts © Paul Wall so to speak. So for TWTW, we decided to go with what you deemed worthy, by tallying which posts had the most comments. Read the rest of this entry »

The Week That Was: If You Blinked, You Missed It

03.07.09 Written by Gotty™

In another fast-paced week here @ TSS, we (hopefully) lived up to our top ranking status by covering most of the bases of all things involving the culture.

While Kanye was Storytelling, Ghost & Rae made separate appearances, each dropping a new track. Another Wu-Gambino, Mr. Meth, also had a new offering, joined by his buddah brother Redman. Joell Ortiz began to cover the classics and was in on a new Slaughterhouse track. His compadre Crooked I ducked shots & lived to tell about it. Charles Hamilton et al dropped their usual rounds of mixtapes, Loosies…and C.Ham did battle with a fan. Read the rest of this entry »

The Week That Was: Business As Usual Edition

02.22.09 Written by TSSCrew

The Smoke Shop opened up this past week. If you haven’t been there yet, you need to put the lotion back in the drawer, wipe your hands and go purchase some goodness and support the family.

Otherwise, it was business as usual.

– Royce released yet another dope video, featuring his Slaughterhouse cohorts Joe Budden and Joell, (who is still releasing new videos for old songs). Kanye will not stop dropping singles and more vids, and CuDi is loving it (although David D. is probably loving it more). T.I joined the list of folks releasing visuals, so did his neighbors Jeezy, and B.o.B. Young Bobby Ray also hit us with some more genius in anticipation of his upcoming album.

– Charles Hamilton released another few mixtapes, and The Roots still have a long road ahead of them. Read the rest of this entry »
