“Whatcha Gonna Do?” – Hulk Hogan’s Top 5 Matches

06.12.09 Written by David D.

Watching the Hulk Hogan family drama unfold over the last couple of years has been difficult to watch, especially for us 80′s babies that grew up on saying our prayers and eating our vitamins. The Hogan family has become a freakshow of incestuous pictures, jail time for Hulk’s son and pictures of a kid half the Hulkster’s age gallivanting around town with Hulk’s wife.

Recently I was reminiscing about how awesome it was to be a Hulk Hogan fan growing up. Looking back on his matches, it’s pretty obvious that Hogan could barely put on a decent headlock as he was one of the worst wrestlers to ever perform once the match started. However, you don’t get to be such a megastar in wrestling without having a few great matches. So TSS is here to rank the top 5 Hulk Hogan matches of all-time.

5. Vs. Andre The Giant At Wreslemania III

This is possibly the biggest moment in wrestling history as Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant met in front of 93,000 people n the Pontiac Silverdome. Hogan’s career was made the moment he bodyslammed Andre. This is an iconic image. But if you watch the match in its entirety, you’ll see it’s like watching a group of amputees trying to play Red Rover. Neither man was good in the ring and this match was horrendous. However, the big moment and sheer historical important makes this an easy top 5 pick.

4. Vs. Shawn Michaels At Summerslam 2005

In case you didn’t know, Hulk Hogan is an egomaniac that believed his own hype. He used to make power plays to guarantee that Read the rest of this entry »

“Wrasslin’”

06.16.08 Written by TSSCrew

Words By David D.

When I was checking out the comments on the Wale post from last week, I noticed folks were seemingly out of nowhere sounding off on some nostalgic wrestling moments and characters. As the resident “wrasslin’” fanatic (still watch RAW every single Monday), I decided to help you guys scratch that wrestling itch with a few great DVDs that’ll bring back some great memories.

The Ultimate Ric Flair DVD and Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen

Ric Flair is simply the greatest wrestler to ever walk inside the ring. He hops on the mic and gives absolutely laugh out loud interviews and puts on amazing matches. His Four Horsemen clique was as badass as it gets. The Four Horsemen DVD is a wonderful documentary that explains the group dynamic and what made these guys great. The Ric Flair DVD is moreso a collection of great matches with video of Flair’s promos hyping the events. The Flair DVD features hour long (!!!) matches against Barry Windham and Ricky Steamboat. The gem for anyone feeling nostalgic is the 1992 Royal Rumble in which Flair entered 3rd and lasted an hour to win. The match features the greatest collection of wrestlers in one ring ever: Flair, Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, Macho Man, Mr. Perfect etc. Each entrant will bring back a new childhood memory.

Shawn Michaels: Heartbreak and Triumph

If Flair is the best wrestler ever, Michaels is widely regarded as right behind him. This DVD is actually an inspirational documentary for wrestling and non-wrestling fans alike as it outlines a performer who fought with personal demons and drug use, while handling the pressure of being the go-to guy for WWE when all the stars left for more money. After a four year absence due to a broken back, Michaels found God, kicked the drugs and returned to the ring. Probably the only wrestling documentary you can watch with the wifey.
