Wiz Khalifa – “Stunt’n”

11.11.10 Written by Gotty™

The recently arrested rapper’s ruse to route our attention away from his arrest includes releasing music, which isn’t a bad idea at all. A new joint with Spitta yesterday and a fresh solo joint today. Read the rest of this entry »

Lil Boosie’s Minor Setback For A Major Comeback

09.23.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Officially two-thirds of the way through, Bad Azz continues to bathe in the love of his family – both blood and experience bonded. Time is a rarity in these clips. Because of this, each person attempts to keep a smile on their face and sleep to a minimum with the impending pull of the law marching closer and closer. Read the rest of this entry »

Twone Gabz – “Bully” Video

06.15.10 Written by K1NG

I can’t stomach the truth, I regurgitate it.”

It’s been about half a decade since I initially heard Twone Gabz lay some vocals on an instrumental when I heard his work on DJ Jazzy Jeff’s album Return Of The Magnificent. If you had told me then, that by 2010, the Chi-town resident would still be barely visible on the national scene, I would probably have debated you like I was trying to defend 2001 as a 5 Cig album. Pill x DJ Drama – 1140: The Overdose

06.01.10 Written by TC

In case you haven’t figured it out, Pill applies his life to a metaphor in perfect context to the environment around him. His addictive lyrical abilities act as stimulants to the audio senses to keep you, the fiends, coming back for more. And since his high hasn’t came down since he was named a top freshman in the game and shutting down SXSW stages, his co-signer XXL acts as the middle man for his latest street shipment 1140: The Overdose. “This Goes Out To All The Struggling Strippers…”

04.25.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Being a stripper, in some weird parallel universe sense, is somewhat like being the President of the United States. For as many people who attend the “public appearances” of both, the negative stigma remains. The stripper’s propensity to remove articles of clothing for those in attendance in return for financial progress. And the President’s already determined logic of “telling the public what they want to hear.” Read the rest of this entry »

Capone-N-Noreaga Feat. Raekwon – “The Reserves”

04.06.10 Written by TC

Perhaps what’s more remarkable than the fact The War Report 2 will be televised thirteen years after the original is the amount of postage that comes along with this track. Producers Dow & Henny of Tha Bizness hail from Seattle but they’re currently ATLiens and they incorporate both regions into their soundbeds. And of course, CNN and Shallah Raekwon hold down the grittiest sectors of NYC. The end result is an East/North/South/West heatrock that’s a first class felony. Read the rest of this entry »

T-Pain Feat. Mack Maine & Snoop Dogg – “Ghetto Commandments”

03.23.10 Written by MZ

I remember when T-Pain first arrived on the scene he appeared to be nothing more than Akon-lite.  Someone to hop on a hook when Mr. Konvict wanted to rest his vocals or go joy-riding.  Since then he’s basically usurped Akon’s spot (although he’s graciously fell to the back due in large part to Pain & Gaga) and created his own lane.  Even a few years ago, I wasn’t sold & scoffed at my barber’s request for a mix of just Pain features. Pill – “Hear Somebody Comin” Video

03.10.10 Written by Gotty™

Woohoo! My dude Pill got with Court Dunn to do the visuals for “Hear Somebody Comin” as a part of the One Shot Series with NahRight. While Pill Cousy dishes lyrical paranoia, the talented Mr. Dunn managed to produce a treatment that’s impactful and unique as always. Alfred Hitchcock would be proud @ the suspense management done by both parties. Read the rest of this entry »

Camp Leaks: Tha Bizness Edition

01.18.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Viral marketing has led to the rise of the self-made superstar and introduced an entirely new grind to today’s artists. Seeing as how very few labels have ever mastered the concept of promotion, the world wide web afforded instant access to the consuming public. For all the positive reinforcements the online world provides, there remains one pitfall. The rise of the Internet has ultimately led to the death of surprise in Hip-Hop. “Damn, Damn…”

01.08.10 Written by J. Tinsley

“Every song I do with him [T-Pain] he better have Auto-Tune on there.” — Lil Wayne

On the same hard drive which contains Weezy‘s Juelz partnered project, I Can’t Feel My Face, and Blood Brothers with Game likely lies his T-Pain collaborative effort, T-Wayne. Who knows if we’ll even have the opportunity hear the full project anytime soon with Weezy’s looming bid and Pain’s sabbatical from mainstream music already months in motion. Regardless, I’m still a fan of the project, so a leak here and there won’t result in many complaints from me.

They’ll never be confused for dead prez, but this dreaded up duo does have the ability to craft quality tracks together. Introspective lyrics aren’t what they’re going for. Instead, “Damn, Damn” uses this instrumental hand crafted by Tha Bizness to speak on a subject they’re both familiar with – women. An updated “Can’t Believe It” is what the vibe of the song encompasses. With the crooning and Auto-Tune, this track seems more suitable for the intoxicated ride home (no drinking & driving though) than the start of your night out on the town.

Mack 10 Feat. Glasses Malone – “Hoo-Bangin II”

11.29.09 Written by K1NG

mack10

In all honesty, before I read TC’s review, I was unaware that Mack 10 even released an album this year. Considering my affinity for Westside Connection and all of its members, I found this troubling. Especially since his record label is also home to two of the most prominent figures in Hip-Hop today in Lil’ Wayne and Drake.

While I have yet to soak in the entire project, the Dow Jones produced “Hoo-Bangin’ II” has definitely sparked my interest and moved it up a few spots in my queue. The LA native finds himself teaming up with newcomer and label-mate Glasses Malone to spit some West Coast game for the uninitiated. Dao provides him with the same combination of smooth bass, well-placed piano keys and slick drums that you would expect out of one half of Tha Bizness.

“Crime Wave” – Review Of 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct

11.21.09 Written by TC

before-i-self-destruct

It’s been a long yet lucrative road to the release of Before I Self Destruct, 50 Cent’s much documented final record on his Interscope contract. Possibly the genre’s last mega-star before Hip-Hop was regressed by the digital age, 50 saw endless mounds of success through business ventures, movies and of course, platinum plaques. Although less notably, popular opinion reads that the caliber of his albums have slipped considerably since his towering debut, Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. Especially when factoring the runaway success of the lead single “In Da Club”–a phenom 50 has been obviously been trying to duplicate ever since. Taken all this into account, the G-Unit general retreads his steps to familiar waters for his 4th LP. Read the rest of this entry »

“Hood Famous” – Review Of Mack 10′s Soft White

11.15.09 Written by TC

mack-10-soft-white

Often overlooked but never without resolve, Mack 10′s career has held steadfast even though he’s never been the biggest dog in the yard. Never overextending his boundaries and ties with the bottomless revenue pit of Cash Money have lauded him job security in the face of a rapper recession. It’s with those [gang] affiliations, Mack is able to traffic his ninth album, Soft White undetected, yet fairly unblemished. Read the rest of this entry »
