Terrace Martin & Devi Dev – The SEX EP

03.10.11 Written by Gotty™

My dearest Devi Dev sent over the final version of her & Terrace’s The SEX EP this morning and I would post the front cover but it’s so raw it would make Kanye’s MBDTF artwork seem tame. Dev, give an areola alert next time around please. Read the rest of this entry »

Snoop Dogg x DJ Skee – #PuffPuffPassTuesdays Mixtape

02.18.11 Written by TC

Tha D-O Double G had a successful run with his weekly weed smoker series and to keep his Doggumentary album in everybody’s mouth, he recruits the Westside’s go-to-pointman, DJ Skee to put the pieces together to make it LP.  If Snoop’s involved, you know it’s an A-list affair. Presented by big money like Adidas Basketball and Colt 45 Blast, Snoop takes it back to the traditional approach of the mixtape when they weren’t so formal. Read the rest of this entry »

Murs & Terrace Martin – “Fresh Kicks” Video

02.16.11 Written by TC

Murs and Terrace Martin are officially Melrose and their western conference got to this point by pounding the pavement in an assortment of crispy SB Dunks and Nike Air Max 360s. The only thing fresher than their footwork is Terrace Martin’s air conditioned bass grooves and Murs gliding across the track like his sneakers got blades on the bottom of them. Terrace Martin Feat. 9th Wonder – “Never Stop Loving You”

01.25.11 Written by J. Tinsley

Almost quiet as can be, this Devi Devi and Terrace Martin series – #DeviTerraceTuesday – has been an enjoyable one. It is a big reason why Terrace’s The Sex EP has such ceiling breaking potential and why my I am constantly going back to revisit last year’s incredibly dope Here, My Dear. We’re already a month and a half into the chain of releases, yet this one may be the highlight of them all. Read the rest of this entry »

Terrace Martin Feat. Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Murs, Casey Veggies, Skeme & Problem – “Pass The Mic”

01.19.11 Written by Beware

The term “New West” was being thrown around by almost every up & coming rapper from Californ-I-A roughly three years ago. Apparently, these much chagrined rap practitioners felt the need to separate themselves from their elder-statesman in order to carve own their own legacy, and for some – the move ended up working out just fine. For others, the nonalignment left talented MCs without a support system and nowhere to look when the going got tough. Read the rest of this entry »

Terrace Martin – “Thirsty” x “Exersize” x “On Melrose” Video

01.05.11 Written by K1NG

Those putting it down on the West Coast may not be grabbing the ears of every listener across the country, but regardless, the output is as strong as ever. The most impressive thing about the recent resurgence is the unity that stretches across all eras & subgenres that has never been so present as right now. Terrace Martin, whose faucet may be in dire need of repair, has three recent leaks that exemplify the new phase in the Golden State. Read the rest of this entry »

Terrace Martin Feat. Kendrick Lamar, Kurupt & Bad Lucc – “Get Bizy”

12.29.10 Written by Beware

While a few other sites had this listed without Terrace Martin, it’s only right to include his name in the tagline, seeing as it’s obvious he orchestrated the track. Upon hearing the Hip-Hop aficionado introduce these three California bar-brawlers, then lace them with his weighty drums and violin-based beat, it became obvious whose idea the MPC concoction was and who decided to call over the hottest MCs he could find for an impromptu studio session.

And, I’ll tell you what, I think Bad Lucc and young Kendrick brought the best out of Kurupt.

Strong Arm Steady Feat. Too $hort – “On Point” Video

12.08.10 Written by TC

For their latest West Coast cinema, Strong Arm Steady invite $hort Dog in for an informal reunion of Golden State Warriors. The Monte Ellis era supplicates plenty of new school pimpology to teach you how to collect your ends without having to smack a beeech, the class of Tim Hardaway Too $hort came up in not only created the handbook but his “agency” supplies a stable of fine young stallions to pose as eye candy for the visual promo for Arms & Hammers. Terrace Martin Yearns For His Anna Gordy

10.19.10 Written by TC

Don’t judge him. Heartache can transform you into an oddball creature all the same. You too may find yourself in a coke-induced, fashion disaster if Devi Dev didn’t appear in any of your videos. But top props go to Terrace Martin for creating a body of work that deviates outside of the norm of today which largely consists of some sort of “Flu” or swag-associated madness. Terrace Martin Feat. Wiz Khalifa & Overdoz – “Roll Up”

09.09.10 Written by Beware

This song was definitely made after it was named. Chiller than Clark Kent and about as spaced out his flying alter-ego, Left Coast virtuoso Terrace Martin’s freshly folded single from his Marvin-Gaye-inspired Here, My Dear mixtape sets the low-key tone for his most personal project to date. The Taylor Gang leader seems to be sitting in the living room for this one, as his slow-motion flow finds a home on this rapper/producer’s live soundscape. Read the rest of this entry »

“Yessir” – Review Of Kurupt’s Streetlights

06.11.10 Written by K1NG

Kurupt has been handling microphones for longer than most Hip-Hop listeners have been handling responsibilities. With a catalogue deeper and more substantial than just about any other artist in the game, his name still doesn’t ring as loud as it should amongst most Hip-Hop circles. It truly is a shame, but like most pioneers in rap, his legacy is disregarded by most of the new generation of enthusiasts. Read the rest of this entry »

Frank Nitt – “Go Girl” Video

05.07.10 Written by Corey Bloom

Anytime the West Coast and Detroit link up, great music tends to be the result. Just in time for sunny days, sunsets and long nights Frank Nitt rolls out a six song EP Jewelz In My Backpack produced entirely by Terrace Martin. I’ve always been a big supporter of Frank Nitt, puzzling to some, but something I boil down to a long history of keeping it so gully on some eloquently gutter beats. You know, rapping about freaks and Rovers over some ill Dilla drum patterns to the present day rapping about macking freaks on “Go Girl” over some airy synths and strings. He’s got that fullback flow, just straight up the middle with no frills. Mr. Martin definitely opened things up for him as well, providing some serious musicianship for Nitti to what he does best.

Jewelz In My Backpack coming soon, but in the mean enjoy “Go Girl” and accompanying video.
