Action Bronson & Statik Selektah – “Strictly Business Pt 1 & 2″

01.23.12 Written by Gotty™

“I spit in cursive, b*tch.”

Nothing more refreshing on a Monday (or any day for that matter) than hearing Action Bronson tackle obscure old tracks with his graphic vocabulary. Much like on “Contemporary Man,” Action sounds right at home as Read the rest of this entry »

Loosies: Sol Needs Your Love, Smoke DZA’s Jacked Up, 1982 & Grip Plyaz

01.18.12 Written by Beware

We get so many supposed-singles from all sorts of artists, but very few actually have the magic to make it on the radio. The latest from Seattle’s Sol, however, is so quint, cute and completely addictive, there’s a very solid chance this could hit FM dials in the Northwest. Read the rest of this entry »

Action Bronson & Statik Selektah – “Cirque Du Soleil” Video

12.30.11 Written by TC

Action Bronson is pure unintentional comedy in a bottle of virgin olive oil with scented rosemary and his legend just keeps on spreading. Keeping the tradition of burning Statik Selektah’s beats to a barbecued crisp from Well Done, the dynamic duo take it back to ’63 with “Cirque Du Soleil,” Read the rest of this entry »

The Kid Daytona – The Interlude 2 Mixtape

12.19.11 Written by Raj

Music fans rejoice, The Kid Daytona lets loose his year-ending mixtape The Interlude II, sequel to 2010′s acclaimed release bearing the same name. As his stock continues to blossom along with universal recognition, the second part of the series looks to elevate the Bronx emcee’s name beyond the blogs and into iPods and car stereos of a new audience. Musically, it’s everything you’d expect from Daytona, but better. His trademark unique sound has matured, enhanced only by his ever-improving intricate lyricism and narrative ability. “Respect The Mustache” – Review Of Action Bronson & Statik Selektah’s Well Done

12.04.11 Written by Greg Whitt

The Ghostface Killah comparisons that have followed Action Bronson ever since he hit the national radar with this spring’s breakbeat-fueled digital release, Dr. Lecter, are reasonable, but ultimately lazy. While the two emcees’ vocal similarities are uncanny, and their colorful personalities bloom from the same twisted tree, Bronson’s Anthony Bourdain meets Kool G. Rap lyrical approach is unique and virtually impossible to categorize. Read the rest of this entry »

“Let’s Build” – Review Of Statik Selektah’s Population Control

11.27.11 Written by Raj

By dropping a producer album, Lawrence, MA’s DJ Statik Selektah automatically inherited both the advantages and disadvantages of such records. Yes, on one hand they have a whole slew of artists from all walks of life, but they also tend to be unfocused and lack a centralized theme. However, on Population Control, his fourth on the subject, Statik tactfully is able to maximize his sound, while smartly directing the album’s bearings. Read the rest of this entry »

Action Bronson & Statik Selektah – “Not Enough Words” Video

11.21.11 Written by Ben Lampin

With Well Done’s release date peeking over the horizon, Action Bronson and Statik Selektah let loose the video for “Not Enough Words.” It’s my favorite joint that’s leaked off the album so far – not just because Bronson’s ridiculous with the pen, because he is, but because there’s a little of the man behind the words in this track. Statik Selektah Feat. Big K.R.I.T. & Freddie Gibbs – “Play The Game” Video

Quite the unique video from Statik Selektah as he grabs Freddie Gibbs and Big K.R.I.T. to film the video for “Play The Game” while all three were at A3C last month. Action Bronson – “Never Enough Words”

11.16.11 Written by Gotty™

Somewhere online, I read someone saying that they couldn’t get into Action Bronson because he sounded too much like Ghostface & only rapped about food. In some ways, the assessment is accurate since Bronson is a chef-turned-rapper and a portly fellow who obviously enjoys consuming the dishes he creates. Read the rest of this entry »
