Slaughterhouse returns to the headphones of the masses with “Back on the Scene,” a lyrical exhibition that doubles as a headnod to Black Sheep’s classic “The Choice is Yours.” Over a beat that updates the frenetic pace and feel of the original for today’s ears, Royce, Crooked I, Joell and Joe Budden do what they do best, which is tear up microphones each in their own unique fashion. Beginning with his affiliated adolescence, this Long Beach behemoth spills some engaging details explaining his come up to becoming the center of Circle of Bosses and Slaughterhouse butcher he is today.

There’s comes a point where a rapper is almost too good for his own good. Case in point, Joey Budden and Nickel Nina. Typically, most less-inferior MCs spread their punch-lines around, leaving listeners time to process their prowess. These Slaughterhouse butchers, however, deliver TKOs so frequently, listeners can’t even keep up and don’t even realize how potent the product really is. That, or they become diehard fans who don’t buy CDs.

One or the other.
