Well, it’s about time SNL was funny. Of course, it took a third party to deliver seven minutes of his own material to create the show’s funniest moments since Sarah Palin was handing the show comic gold on a silver platter. Zach Galifianakis is one of the top comedians doing it right now, so many were looking forward to this episode. Unfortunately, a bunch of the skits fell flat. The monologue, though, was a home run. This came out a few weeks back, and I was planning on keeping it to myself like a secret gem in my safe keeping for forever and ever, Amen. But eff it; the world deserves its mastery.

I have few words to describe it other than for me, Andy and Co. have outdone themselves over at SNL (which is still a funny show, by the by.) This is just three minutes of quotables that I now say to myself on the daily…i.e. when a lobbyist gets in my face, “I ain’t gonna be part of your system,” or someone complains about my story, they just get a “Groooouuund!” Please also apply as you see fit to your daily goings on.

Considering 95% of what I read is supplied by a screen, it’s a rarity for me to bring up anything hardcover. Live from New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live, however, is well worth the mention.

Inherited upon switching homes, I’ve found this collection of past contributors/cast members’ backstage memoirs perfect for keeping around and about the crib. Having literally grown up watching the show, and following the actors’ progression over the years, the drug-induced, behind-the-scenes details delivered in this book leave me reluctant to put it down. The transcript is delivered real-time, progressing from the POV of important players,’ frequently featuring gems like the one below, a classic couplet of Chris Farley stories courtesy of longtime head writer Fred Wolf.
