The second installment to the Sa-Ra Creative Partners podcast series focuses on the trio’s harder-hitting productions. The aggressive and darker tones in these selected songs fit aptly to the namesake of the red planet Mars, which is the Roman God of War. Of particular note is the sonic contrast from the previous Episode I: Voyage To Venus, as Episode II: Mission To Mars delivers heavier servings of emceeing and also showcases Om’Mas, Shafiq and Taz venturing into solo side-projects, collaborating with other producers and being featured as guest artists. The title to Outasight’s new project is stemmed from an absolute classic song that most folks haven’t heard but I’ve been sitting over for close to a year now. It symbolizes the sheer optimism OU has layered his music with since day one. An accompanying soundtrack for the common man (and woman). Never say anything that hints of the negative because the right outlook could shift any situation to the positive and beyond. Read the rest of this entry »

Our good friend of ours Zo is back with another nicely compiled collection. For this aural trip, he’s chosen the music of Sa-Ra, which happens to be a favorite group of both of his and mine.
“By now, Sa-Ra Creative Partners – the genre-bending producing and performing trio – has either captivated or confused the entire gamut of music heads and tastemakers alike. This podcast series (a scheduled trilogy) consists of interviews, album cuts, overlooked gems, rarities, exclusives and remixes to please current fans and entrance newcomers. Even greater, it can perhaps serve as a medium for folks who have been seeking a way to delve into the complex world of SRCP. Episode I: Voyage to Venus mostly boasts spacey funk and smooth dusty soul, showcasing the softer, amorous side of Sa-Ra’s catalog.” Read the rest of this entry »
As much as I love Taz and the whole SRCP, there’s no way I could have been on set for this one. I can listen to “Southside Blood Cuz’n” maybe three or four times repeatedly when I’m here and trying to get into a zone for working. But imagine having to hear it repeatedly over the chorus of a 12-16 video shoot? On second thought, it’s those repeat plays that sometimes make a song likeable. Who knows. If I ever run into Coodie & Chike, I’ll ask them how it made them feel. My guess is the response will be “tripped out.” Read the rest of this entry »
Even though I consider myself well versed in SRCP and their catalog, I’m not even sure if this joint is actually new. What I do know and understand is that “Southside…” is the musical equivalent of a Phil Niekro knuckleball, going several different directions before reaching its destination in the strike zone. And just like the aforementioned pitch, remember that looks are always deceiving when dealing with Taz. Peel back the layers and there’s sound after sound to be found within all of the seeming quirkness. New or not, it’ll be the first single from Mr. Arnold’s Hood Love as he ventures out to release a solo LP. Read the rest of this entry »
Leave it to Coodie & Chike to wrangle in Taz of SRCP to film the inaugural episode of Ti$aVision TV.
The word “crazy” gets tossed around unduly when speaking of people who may be on another wavelength or maybe even ahead of their time. The non-linear thought process of ‘tAz Arnold aka Ti$a’ has definitely garnered him the “crazy” moniker but his ability to curb that right brain thinking into efforts such as music and clothing would brand him more as an eccentric Read the rest of this entry »
