Redman – “Buck Buck”

03.16.10 Written by Gotty™

Am I the only one who finds it mildly funny but cool that Reggie Noble uses Twitter? Just imagine his keyboard being filthy with resin as he sends messages out to the internuts. Last night, he was kind enough to pass along this Illmind-produced track, “Buck Buck.” Read the rest of this entry »

Redman – “Mind On My Money”

03.03.10 Written by Gotty™

I’m on tour nigga, you on Facebook…”

Looks like the album title got altered to simply Reggie, which is good. That mixed number of name just wasn’t working. Not that it would really matter because Reggie Noble stays funky with it. Read the rest of this entry »

Redman – “Oh My”

Red Gone Wild throws on his shine blockas and rides off in the sunset with this freshly wrapped blunt from the forthcoming Reggie Noble “0″ 9  ½. Rain, sleet or trendy industry, Redman always prescibes what the Funk Doctor’s patients demand from him and for that alone, he’s earned our respect. Read the rest of this entry »

The More Things Change…

01.03.10 Written by TSSCrew

Politically, economically and culturally, a lot has changed since December 31, 1999. In terms of music, the past ten years has seen a seismic shift in the way we consume music and in turn has profoundly influenced how music is made. In ‘99 we were still in the midst of the compact disc era (although I was snagging tunes off shared dorm room drives for the first time and had just installed WinAmp on my computer).

But in terms of content, has Hip-Hop music really changed much since 1999? Take a look at what the TSS Crew would have been debating as the 90′s closed.

The all-time low of Pop music — Seriously. If you think shit’s bad now, then maybe you should check out this Top 100 list from 1999. Cher’s “Believe” at number one? Sugar Ray and Ricky Martin in the top 10 and the rise of teen pop? No wonder people thought there was going to be an apocalypse. Read the rest of this entry »

Redman x Casio G-Shock

12.14.09 Written by Jason H.

If you wanted a Redman watch what would it include? Wait. Don’t worry, Casio’s answered it for you with this Redman version of their ever popular G-Shock.

If you’re out for minimalism, this is it. The red colorway, engraved Redman logo on the back and Brick City packaging hit it right on the nail. If you’re in the market for a new timepiece, this would fit the bill and make a nice Christmas gift to self. Read the rest of this entry »

“Salute A G” – Review Of M.O.P.’s Foundation

10.06.09 Written by TSSCrew

mop-foundation

We should know what to expect by now from the Brooklyn duo M.O.P. It’s almost been two decades since they first barrage their way into the scene and they’ve seldom strayed from their modus operandi: to properly represent Hip-Hop, Brooklyn and the streets at large while providing theme music for whatever nefariously sinister activities they’ve associated with on a daily basis. And although Billy Danze and Lil’ Fame have been ran through the ringer for the past 9 years through 3 record deals, they’ve found their footing in the independent field and returned with a fresh Foundation. TSS Presents Smoking Sessions With Method Man & Redman

05.21.09 Written by TC

When the great Hip-Hop pairings of our time get brought up, how often are Method Man & Redman mentioned? Since 1995′s bong-blazin’ anthem “How High” to their seminal classic album Blackout!, the Shaolin and Brick City representers have ignited Notable Quotable verses as well as the end of their blunts on a regular basis. Still going strong on the heels of releasing the noteworthy follow-up Blackout 2!, Red & Meth crash TSS to break down old school vs. new school rappers, future endeavors and their favorite THC byproducts.

This is a Smoking Session. What did you expect?

TSS: It’s been a good 10 years since the original Blackout! Do the planets have to align, lunar eclipses, Apocalypse Now-type shit to get y’all in the studio?

Method Man: Nah we been in the studio, y’all know that the work was still there. Red has his solo project, Def Squad, Gilla House and numerous mix CDs he was working on. I had my solo project and the Wu-Tang joint. So we was staying in the loop but the label didn’t come around to the table because they were going through their staff changes at the time — but it’s here now though.

TSS: What was the creation process of Blackout 2! ? Was it a totally different experience or more of the usual routine.

Method Man: It was a casual approach. We went in with our heads clear. We didn’t have any pressure from the label and we went in comfortable. No pressure to do radio songs or none of that. And I actually, honestly LISTENED to the music to and conceptualized from that point on. Read the rest of this entry »

Video: Emilio Sparks Interviews Method Man And Redman

05.15.09 Written by David D.

Word on the e-streets is that Blackout 2 is pifferific. The homie Emilio was able to get a hold of the two MCs for an interview.

Redman is his usual funny and candid self and you don’t want to miss his feelings on his Def Jam situation. After the break, Meth is a little more diplomatic but has a special message for those bloggers out there, wherever they may be. Read the rest of this entry »

Celebrating 25 Years: adidas x Def Jam

05.11.09 Written by Gotty™

What better company than adidas to create sneakers celebrating Def Jam’s 25 years in the music business? They’ve only been informally married to each other since early in the label’s existence. Some of these models & colorways are enh, but more than a few are impressive, including the Ghostface Forums pictured above. Other artists, including Meth, Red & Jeezy, all received their own kicks.

*golf clap*

Well done, adidas & Def Jam.
