We should have all seen an album of this nature coming from Ghostface. While Brother Starks has had his feet planted firmly in the Shaolin slums with legendary street tales, his catalogue has always featured a smattering of songs displaying the triumphs and tragedies of attempts to conquer the fairer sex. From the unrepenting “Wildflower” to becoming mesmerized by the likes of “Beauty Jackson,” Ghostface has been known for stacking his escapades with honesty and sharp detail. Going all in for the gusto, Mr. Coles’ latest endeavor, Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City, is a smorgasbord of R&B flavored tunes with that special Ghost twist. First off, big salute to all the fathers out there. On the streets, at war, at work, hustling, locked up, who still find strength to maintain and still keep the babies. You’re raising the future. We doff our hats to you.

Back to our regular scheduled programming. What did you miss this week?

- The Lakers sonned whatever that other team was The Magic.

- Sa-Ra and Raheem DeVaughn provided more music to make more babies to.

- Killer Mike re-emerged to discipline you truant children.

- We looked back at the Jordan True Blues, the mack daddy of all sneakers, in my dishonest opinion.

- The good folks at Slaughterhouse embarrassed their children and entertained the rest of us with a little skit.

- Playboy Tre returned to the internet. No father pun here Read the rest of this entry »

Raheem DeVaughn – The Art Of Noise Mixtape

New mixtape from Raheem DeVaughn… if you needs a treatise as to why you should download this, keep it moving.  All I know is I sat at a cookout this weekendwhere the music alternated between Gucci Mane, Destiny’s Child & someone’s freakum mix.  All in an effort to appease a grandmother who wasn’t paying any attention to what was blaring from the speakers.  But I’m sure she’d approve of this if she had chose to turn up her earpieces.

“Stuck, Daydreaming At This Light…”

Words By Contraâ„¢

Wondering if that’s a sign of how I’m going through life.
A reckless abandon; an accident just waitin’ to happen.”

It’s rare that an artist pens a verse so excellent, so standout that I’m literally forced to reconsider my whole perspective on the musician.

Beanie Sigel seems to have mastered how to do this at least once in each album.

Almost as a stark reminder as to why I listen to him in the first place, he’ll always have a strategically placed verse or two that hit so hard, and so close to home, that I end up shrugging my criticisms away and throwing him back on the list of artists I thoroughly endorse. “Four Letter Word” – Review Of Raheem DeVaughn’s Love Behind The Melody

01.20.08 Written by TC

Just like every other musical genre, R&B music is constantly evolving to keep up with modern-day pop culture. But for a category of music that was rooted in soul, raw talent, and most importantly genuine love ballads, the reconstruction of the sound with aims for mass-consumption has arguably weakened the art. Too often, pop artists blur the lines of categorization while more traditional R&B acts have been classified as Neo-Soul, thus putting them in a small box out of reach from the public eye.

One of those artists, Raheem DeVaughn, has shown in his brief career that having creative control over your product can equal quality. With one acclaimed album under his belt, R.D. shows his consistency on Love Behind The Melody with rich, full, versification that exhibits a level of maturity as well as entertainment.
