Phil Adé – A Different World Mixtape

07.19.11 Written by J. Tinsley

One of my favorite episodes of Everybody Hates Chris was when he made the wrestling team. Long story short, he did so because he believed having a letterman jacket would allow him to experience a different world socially. The same can be said, somewhat, about the DMV’s own Phil Adé. Fat Trel x DJ Money – April Foolz Mixtape

04.12.11 Written by Greg Whitt

“DC Shoes ain’t D.C. Shit…” – Fat Trel

Fat Trel is an enigma wrapped in a riddle, wrapped in a grape cigarillo. He is aligned with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area’s most recognizable Hip-Hop artist, recent Maybach Music Group signee Wale. Oddly enough, Fat Trel is everything Wale is not. He wears North Face, not Billionaire Boys Club. Album First Listen: Saigon’s The Greatest Story Never Told

02.08.11 Written by TC

In 2011, this is as close to a “Roll Call” as you’re going to get. Annnd, in 2011, this could be considered the first noteworthy Hip-Hop full-length record to get the ball rolling; set the standard for where the beats, rhymes and life should be propelled to elevate the music standard in the commercial district. Vado Feat. Raheem DeVaughn – “It’s You”

12.28.10 Written by J. Tinsley

In 2010, The Diplomats finally let bygones be bygones and decided more money could be made by being friends as opposed to acting like they never knew each other existed since “the breakup” a few years back. That’s all well and good, but even more important – and interesting – was the emergence of Vado. Read the rest of this entry »

The Week That Was: The When LeBron Came Back Edition

12.03.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Damn, Dan.

– All week, the big news in the sports world centered around LeBron James’ return to Cleveland. Three quarters, 38 points and eight assists later, fans were left only to reminisce when it was all so simple.

– Where there are success stories in sports, there are also heartbreaks. The crew thought of 10 that still tug at our emotions.

– Soulja Boy’s choice of groupies is only overshadowed by his choice of albums. Read the rest of this entry »

Raheem DeVaughn Performs Lip Service On Camera

12.02.10 Written by TC

If you’re at work, don’t even think about attempting to view this—let alone enter this post. For those of you that felt Ms. Keri Baby was uncouth in her video, allow Raheem DeVaughn—pardon me—allow the Grammy-nominated singer Raheem DeVaughn to upstage her as he does some of the most questionable “acting” this side of Billy Bob Thorton for his “She’s Single” promo. He’s already given you his confessions, so the next logical step would be to settle down right? I mean, it worked for Usher. Skillz realized that life’s not worth living if he doesn’t have that special someone to share the contents of his million dollar backpack with. Read the rest of this entry »

Shareefa x Don Cannon – The Misunderstanding Of Shareefa

07.30.10 Written by TC

Shareefa is pretty adept in what she does, yet four years since “Need a Boss,” it seems like people still don’t know it yet. Instead of throwing in the towel or getting knocked by some sleazy industry lemming, she linked with Don Cannon for the incredibly impressive The Misunderstanding of Shareefa. Billed as mixtape, the DTP songstress belts out original material featuring Raheem DeVaughn, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and the Trackmasters among others. Maybe now, you’ll catch her drift. Phil Ade Feat. Raekwon, Wale, tabi Bonney and Raheem DeVaughn – “Hollywood (Remix)”

05.14.10 Written by Gotty™

Devin’s been the main one biggin’ up Phil’s music but perhaps it’s time we all pay a little more attention. It’s hard not to @ least be curious when you see a lineup that features Chef alongside several the notables from the nation’s capital. While the original was already strong, bolstered by Raheem’s chorus and one helluva soundbed, the combined effort on the remix make the DMV’s version of Hip-Hop sound soulful, each artist making an earnest statement to stay true to their start. “Paragraphs Of Love” – Review Of Ghostface Killah’s Ghostdini: The Wizard Of Poetry In Emerald City

09.15.09 Written by David D.

ghostface-killah-wizard-of-poetry

We should have all seen an album of this nature coming from Ghostface. While Brother Starks has had his feet planted firmly in the Shaolin slums with legendary street tales, his catalogue has always featured a smattering of songs displaying the triumphs and tragedies of attempts to conquer the fairer sex. From the unrepenting “Wildflower” to becoming mesmerized by the likes of “Beauty Jackson,” Ghostface has been known for stacking his escapades with honesty and sharp detail. Going all in for the gusto, Mr. Coles’ latest endeavor, Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City, is a smorgasbord of R&B flavored tunes with that special Ghost twist.
