There’s a sort of Norman Rockwell quality to Yelawolf. Not because his work paints a cheery sense of nostalgia; but rather it provides a striking portrait of modern rural America. Upon reading the listed artists, Yelawolf’s “Throw It Up” may seem like the oddest pairing on a rap record but it’s actually not. His Tennessee roots mean he undoubtedly listened to more than his fair share of “the old Triple 6 Mafia” when the group still featured Gangsta Boo and other originals.
