We’re All A Little Jealous Of Philadelphia Sports Teams Right Now

07.30.11 Written by AJ

The Phillies have made something of a habit out of nabbing premium talent on the eve of MLB’s trade deadline (picking up Cliff Lee in ’09 and Roy Oswalt in ’10), and this year was no different as Philadelphia acquired All-Star right fielder Hunter Pence from the Houston Astros. Phillies Pitch Perfection!

05.30.10 Written by TC

The ghost of Cy Young is among us, ladies and gentlemen. And he’s possessing the pitchers of Major League Baseball. Not even a month removed since Dallas Braden pitched a perfect game, we have a classic case of déjà vu as Roy Halladay becomes the 20th member of the perfect game club. Laying the smack down on the 27 different Florida Marlins he faced in the nine innings, not even the real Doc Holliday had that much accuracy during his days at the O.K. Corral. Phillies Fan Gets Tasered

05.04.10 Written by Gotty™

Everyone has an online video fetish. There are those who make viral sensations out of cats and other assorted animals playing musical instruments while dressed in little corsets. TC likes to watch the high school girlfights @ WSHH. Me? I’m all about Taser clips. Send me a good Taser clip and I’m watching, giggling. Why? I’m not sure but watching someone temporarily lose their sh#t cracks me. Couple it with a sporting event and I’m all in.

Last night, a 17-year-old genius had the bright idea of running onto Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park. It was all fun & games…until security Tasered his ass. Can’t you just hear “Don’t Tase bro!” running through his mind? Read the rest of this entry »

“By Any Means Necessary…”

10.28.09 Written by J. Tinsley

Philly fans are wild. I’ll leave it at that. With the World Series set to start tonight in the Bronx, you better believe it’s the hottest ticket in either town seeing as how Philly and New York are only separated by a few hours. Although I do expect Phillies fans to let their presence be known, there’s one who won’t be making the trip. Meet Susan Finkelstein.

Susie happens to be a devout Phillies fan and will go to any length to prove her loyalty. And by ANY, I mean ANY… Read the rest of this entry »

TSS 2009 MLB Playoff Preview & Predictions

10.08.09 Written by Patrick M.

2009 was not a great year for the MLB. Continued steroid scandals, dropping attendance and a notable lack of September drama (unless you consider to .500 teams battling to get shellacked in the playoffs drama), mean that MLB could really use a good October. With flagship franchises like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and Cardinals all involved in the proceedings, the stage is set. Below are TSS resident baseball gurus — Jason H. and myself — prognostications on how it will all unfold.

ALDS — Boston Vs. LA Angels

Patrick M. – LA Angels in 5: Boston’s owned Anaheim’s finest to the tune of a 9-1 postseason ass beating this decade. But this Sox team isn’t quite to the caliber of the last five years. Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis and the Fenway crowd won’t let the Sawx go out without a fight. Look for John Lackey to finally best the Red Sox in the playoffs in Game 5. He Waited His Whole Life For This Moment…

09.18.09 Written by Gotty™

…and probably paid decent money for those seats. You can tell he’s a serious fan because he’s got his cap turned backwards & the matching Phillies shirt. He doesn’t care that you think he’s a putz. He’s a Phillies fan and this team is a part of his life. It means so much to him, he even paid to bring his pride & joy, daddy’s little girl, to the game with him so that she would one day too grow to be a diehard Philly fan. And catching the foul ball? It made his life worth living. Like any loving father, he shares the moment with his child, allowing her to hold the ball.

Then she throws it back. Read the rest of this entry »

TSS 2009 MLB Preview: The National League

04.03.09 Written by TSSCrew

If you’re not a fan of baseball, this may not be for you.

This is for the real fans. Yeah, I’m talking to you.  You completely equate Spring with the crack of the bat, parking lot pre-gaming at 10 a.m. and of course justified heckling even South Park would blush to. Yes, we are the idiots who drop a bill to sit in rain for three consecutive hours. Like Phillies fans who waited two decades, regaining their full pride with their team’s championship or Tampa Bay who were content with just even being there and surpassing both super powers of the Yanks and Sox as division leaders. That’s the essence of the game and the devotion of being a fan. This devotion is why after countless seasons, the die-hard fans survive.

We recognize that same passion when we write about music as well as our other outside interests. So like an album review, we break down what shines, what falters and remind you why we even give a care in the first place. If you read this far, welcome brethren. We’re fans too. And here’s our take on the 2009 MLB season, starting with the National League first.

NL East Projected Standings — Jason Hortillas

1.Philadelphia Phillies
2.New York Mets
3.Florida Marlins
4.Atlanta Braves
5.Washington Nationals

The obvious choice is to go with defending champions, the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s hard to argue against it when the New York Mets rotation Read the rest of this entry »
