The Nets’ Monday night 108-94 loss against the Pacers was notable for two reasons. The L marked Jersey’s fifth straight defeat in as many total games and it was the game where Shelden Williams dunked his face in. It was only a month ago that the world was LeBron’s oyster. Poised to make a title run, then sit back & watch the NBA participate in the LeBron sweepstakes, there didn’t seem to be anything that could derail his train. But a funny thing happened on the way to NBA immortality: between a disappointing Conference Semi-Final loss to the Celtics & rumors involving his mother and teammate Delonte West, leaving Cleveland didn’t seem like such a bad idea for once. While Cleveland always appeared to be the logical destination for LeBron’s immediate & continued basketball success, these two events will probably have more to do with his decision than he’d publicly like to admit.

With so many friends (true or new) & advisers wanting a piece of LeBron’s ear for various reasons, there may be one voice that will have a greater influence than what seemed plausible at one time. The New Jersey Nets are quite possibly the hardest team to be a fan of as they are an irregular bunch. This is why I suspect that S. Cadet and myself are the only Nets fans round these parts. Unless of course there are some Jay-Z Stans in the building.

As a Nets fan, I thought I didn’t have much to look forward to going into this season. Maybe they’d win a couple more games than last year but that would be about it. I was especially skeptical of Devin Harris. Sure, he’s quick and was good for 15 and 6. Not to mention I was tight about him getting’ shook by some bloke off the street. All jokes aside I didn’t think he was ready to lead the team.

I caught this on ESPN2′s First Take last week and was surprised that was the only time I heard this mentioned. Maybe because it happened to Devin Harris that the buzz on this wasn’t bigger.
