Concepts:

“The design approach was inspired by the stately heritage of the Massachusetts sailing community. Concepts wanted to create an understated and wearable shoe for any highly discerning sneaker consumer. The primary colors of the collaboration have been inspired by many sea faring signposts which explicitly bears its mark in the semaphore pattern grid used in the foot bed while gray and khaki accents ground the shoe. One of the most frustrating things about winter is wearing the same boots over & over, so I’m all for any boot that’s a change of pace. I think I first saw the New Balance H710SB’s on the feet of a guy at the gas station. I normally don’t talk to anyone I don’t know while pumping gas, let alone in the middle of the winter, but I had to know where he got ‘em from. Naturally, he got them “in New York” and he said that he was on his way back up there the next day. He offered to scoop me up a pair and we exchanged numbers. Congrats are in order for the brothers at Burn Rubber for being the first U.S. shop to be chosen by New Balance to design a SMU (special make-up) for the MT580. I saw the kicks in early October when Ro rocked the PA stage @ A3C and words will not do them justice at all. For my tastes, the muted greys and gum sole matched with the complete comfort of the MT580 equate to the shoe I’d likely create if given the chance. Read the rest of this entry »

I always admired shoes for their artistic merit and growing up I always thought it’d be cool to display some of my favorites in glass boxes around the house when I was older. Looking back that seems pretty stupid, although I’m aware it is done.
