Never in my life did I imagine that MTV could make me laugh more than The Office.

I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion. It’s what allows me to stand up on the soapbox and express my thoughts.  But I also realize that whenever I put my thoughts to the keyboard, they are fair game for whoever to scrutinize and pick apart at their discretion. So they can call So Far Gone the best mixtape of the year (& one of the best of all time), I tipped my hat to them and thought “they finally got something right.”  It’s still debatable, but not out of the question.  Besides, we like to debate around here.

Then they had to put out the rest of the best mixtape list.  But they didn’t just pull out the soap box to give their decree, they sat all 300 pounds of their corporate influence in the dunk tank and picked some unassuming 5-year-old from the crowd to throw the ball at the target.  We all know what happens next…

Just caught this relatively old gem for the first time on MTV Jams.

This beat is the bee’s knees. It’s also somehow pleasant and odd at the same time to see E-40, Goldie Loc and MC Eiht on MTV. It’s even better to see Daz and Kurupt pop out of an ice cream truck in the middle of Hollywood Blvd. Plus, Snoop does himself kind of dirty by spitting the following unbelievably pause-worthy lines, then pointing to his (fake) Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Just as MTV’s much maligned list of the hottest MC’s for 2009 was ending it’s buzz cycle, they decided to try and breathe life into by justifying why Eminem wasn’t included. Last week MTV debuted it’s 2009 Hottest MC List.  And since they only discuss music on their website, they decided to make a week-long spectacle of it, instead of presenting the the list in an hour long show.  They introduced spots #10 – #5 last week and the remainder of the list on air in-between Diddy’s latest reality show.  Anytime you put together a list like this, you open yourself up for debate and criticism.

For the most part I don’t have too much of a problem with this list. It was voted on by fans, as well as the panel, so this is what some segment of America believes to be the “hottest” MC’s, for better or worse. Now, if this had been a list of the best MC’s based on skill alone, this would be far out of wack. But when you look into factors outside of music and skill set alone, you’d be hard pressed to get anyone to agree to a concrete list.
