To be a person whose work hinges around music and pop culture, I’ve never been able to sit through award shows. In recovery, they tell addicts to avoid triggers and I think award shows may be a linchpin for me, spectacles that I just can’t sit through long enough without feeling like socking my TV set. After a few years of suffering through Russell Brand as host, MTV’s decided to mix it up by announcing Chelsea Handler as this year’s VMA host. Expect sexually-tinged onstage exchanges with rappers, self-depreciating Jewish jokes, the ribbing of homosexuals and tons of vodka consumed backstage. You’ve heard about the off-the-record comment but have you heard the off-the-record comment? You have now. And this goes against all the codes of journalistic integrity thanks to Terry Moran’s Twitter, but hey, even Kanye himself can’t be mad at the snub. In all honesty, he can name his next album Jackass and get the amount of publicity as he is now.

Here’s the statement ABC conjured up in regards to the matter:

In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview. This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again.

Congrats to Yeezy. You will forever be the Democratic mascot stamped with the official Presidential seal.

Jay Leno gave Kanye a chance to apologize once again after coming down from his liquid courage outburst last night.  Regardless of whether it was staged or not, Leno scored a coup with this happening before the debut of his new show.  My only advice for Kanye is he better put some new music to make people to forget about all this.

Nothing monumental with this performance, but I believe Rihanna’s vocals prove what I was saying… huh CJ?
