“Are you ready to live?”
That’s the question Moruf permeates throughout Garden State of Mind: Ready to Live, the NJ rapper’s second mixtape. I had a chance to listen to this project while it was still in the oven and he had a decent selection of songs. Yet it lacked something other than the usual tidbits. I’ve said time and time again that new rappers ought to steer clear of top-tier instrumentals. But here here he goes gettin’ loose on “Mass Appeal” as if it was any old beat layin’ around. Seems like the minimalistic shoots at a somewhat vague location (in this case, somewhere in Brooklyn) are the new wave in e-music videos. You won’t hear any squabbles from me about this shift in video making since club scenes and blue screens are looking staler by the day. When I dropped a post about Mo0 this summer his track met TSS with a somewhat tepid response. I saw a modicum of potential in the kid but dude wasn’t “there” yet in many respects.
