“The Feel” – Review Of Mistah F.A.B.’s I Found My Backpack 2: The Lost Notebook

01.21.12 Written by Raj

Oakland’s Mistah F.A.B. has long been one of Hip-Hop’s most renowned freestylers, an art where there is almost nobody else who can match him. However, his latest album, I Found My Backpack 2: The Lost Notebook, shows that strong off-the-top bars don’t always translate into the successful crafting of a complete album. Mistah F.A.B. – “Welcome To Hell”

12.01.11 Written by Gotty™

Mistah F.A.B.’s set to finish out the year by releasing the follow-up I Found My Backpack 2: The Lost Notebook on December 6th. While the two previous leaks (“Probably The Greatest” and “Tribute To Hip-Hop”)were more lyrical free-for-all’s, “Welcome To Hell” is just that – a thematic trip to the darkside with Fabby Davis as the guide. Mistah F.A.B. Feat. N.O.R.E. & Jadakiss – “Probably B The Greatest”

10.17.11 Written by Raj

Though Fabby Davis Jr. has long been making noise in the Bay Area, his recent flurry of delightfully, face-cringing freestyles has been steadily expanding his buzz to the national radar. And now on “Probably the Greatest,” he’s traveling East with Jadakiss and N.O.R.E. to put other areas on on alert as well. While Mistah F.A.B.’s complete songs have typically failed to impress me in the same light as his off-the-top bars, this one isn’t so bad, probably thanks to the vast arsenal of his strong supporting cast. But regardless, it’s good to see the Oakland rapper getting some well-deserved shine because the man has really tapped into his deep well of raw talent as of late.

Off of I Found My Backpack Part 2, coming soon.

Mistah F.A.B. (Really) Freestyles For ThisIs50

10.12.11 Written by Gotty™

Reiterating what we already know (and have posted once or twice), F.A.B.’s the best off-the-cuff rhymer on the scene right now. Here, he asks host ThisIs50 Radio host Maya The B to jot down “not your typical rap words” but dig up more challenging, “SAT words” for him to incorporate into an unrehearsed rhyme. Mistah F.A.B. – “Tribute To Hip-Hop” Video

Mistah F.A.B. pays tribute to rap with a rap, kicking it off with a freestyle live and direct in front of an Amoeba Music location. From there, the beast from the Bay takes listeners on a trek through Hip-Hop’s hallowed hallways rattling off the game’s most influential artists Read the rest of this entry »

Mistah F.A.B. Spits A Freestyle For The Ages On MTV’s RapFix

09.29.11 Written by Raj

There are two kinds of freestyles: the “freestyle” and the freestyle. The first was made popular when a certain Canadian rapper “spit off the top” of his BlackBerry and second has become a dying art. But yesterday afternoon on the MTV RapFix couch, Oakland’s Mistah F.A.B. – the self-titled freestyle king – effectively crowned himself, in jaw-dropping fashion. Read the rest of this entry »

Mistah F.A.B – “Headlines (Freestyle)”

08.08.11 Written by Gotty™

Artists often say their recordings are freestyles but we all know Fabby Davis Jr. means it when he says it’s a freestyle since anybody who’s ever encountered the guy in the street knows he can kick rhymes off the dome better than most MCs can write them. Read the rest of this entry »

Mistah F.A.B. Feat. Shady Nate, Zar The Dip & Big Fase Mel – “Oakland (Panther Remix)” Video

07.07.11 Written by Raj

It goes without saying that the Oscar Grant slaying was a repulsive transgression that’s been seared into the hearts of the residents of Oakland and transcended beyond the Bay Area. Johannes Mehserle’s slap-on-the-wrist sentence has only compounded the sentiments. Read the rest of this entry »

Mistah F.A.B. – “Sneaker Head” Video

Fat Joe licks shoes. Mistah F.A.B. just lets ‘em stack to the ceiling to create a leaning tower of sneakers. When you’re on your Grind, there’s rarely any time to stop and enjoy the finer things in life. Yet, there’s many rivers to cross; many miles to trek to get to your mountaintop, and I’ll be damned if you don’t need plenty of kicks to get there. Read the rest of this entry »

T-Pain – prEVOLVEr The Mixtape

05.10.11 Written by TC

The other day I had an interesting conversation that sort of “revolved” around T-Pain being a has-been and serving no relevance what so ever. In some respect, the Teddy Pain train has lost a chunk of it’s steam with Auto-Tune being “dead” and all, yet the idea of his relative career being six feet under was a bit of stretch. On any given Sunday, you can still catch the Nappy Boy helming a hook that will penetrate the Billboard charts and most of the material he really puts his heart into Read the rest of this entry »

Mistah F.A.B. – The Grind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste Pt. 2 Mixtape

05.06.11 Written by Beware

It’s nice to see Fabby Davis Jr. keeping up the mantra of consistency he’s carried his whole career with the aptly-titled The Grind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste Pt. 2 mixtape. It was also kind of nice to see the tape’s cover, as the detailed design made me feel little better about still having posters of my idolized artists hanging around my house. On Mistah F.A.B., SXSW & Freestyling

03.23.11 Written by Gotty™

Nick from HardKnock, April Bombai, Devi Dev and I were starving after all the crap ended on Friday night in Austin. Tired but filled with too much child-like energy, we wandered the street before agreeing that another night of pizza would be the choice again. We walked to one of the eighty pizza joints located on 6th Street and, while we were about to place our orders, then glanced out to notice Fabby Davis, Jr. walking our way with a few pals.
