Over here in the Great Lakes states, we’ve been getting douched for the past 24 hours with a friendly reminder that “Christmas Time Is Here.” Drive time is quadrupled because traffic is so touchy, as fender benders are considered commendable and the ice-induced death-toll continues to cross our newscasts. Grand with an oddball sitcom-style set-up.

First it was Snoop Dogg that reached out to Mayer Hawthorne on the super-come-up tip, now apparently Miss AmErykah is looking to doo-wop, too. I guess it’s just another chapter in the man-meets-whirlwind saga of the hodgepodge heartthrob once known as Haircut.

Next thing you know, Hawthorne will be sitting cross-legged on a huge red, floor pillow next to Paul McCartney, smoking from a roach-clip and dissecting the genius of Ashford & Simpson.

I remember thinking how inspiring it must’ve been for Mayer Hawthorne when I saw the humbled Ann Arbor crooner being heralded by Bigg Snoop Dogg about six months back, before he’d really hit Jimmy Kimmel status. The Doggfather, of all people, went out of his way to find the unassuming singer and go as far as to saying he wanted to do work, making him the first A-List rapper to openly try and enlist Hawthorne’s soulful services for a big-league hook.
