Until proven otherwise, I’m continuing to believe Maurice Garland is the most influential man in the Atlanta music scene. While “most influential” may be pushing it, the fact that he is highly respected by artists in that community (and outside of Atlanta’s stranglehold) is beyond evident. Growing up in Central Virginia, there were no professional sports teams in close proximity. Because of this, attending a Richmond Braves – formerly the Triple A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves – baseball game during the summer was the closest many people who call the area home ever got to a big league game.
