Vote For Manny!

05.28.09 Written by Gotty™

Watching Sports Center yesterday, the anchors were up in arms due to the fact that Manny Ramirez was fourth in MLB’s All-Star voting for NL outfielders. They blathered on about how much of a PR disaster it would be if he made it as a starter, even though he’s suspended for 50 games for PEDs (he’ll return in early July, a few games before the ASG). Since voting for the game is fan-driven (because baseball is America’s favorite you know), the cries of foul from the media’s talking heads, managers & owners, even the commissioner would be null & void if enough fans voted Manny in.

Immediately, I thought “Somebody needs to start a site for that.”

Thankfully, someone has.

I Think The Dodgers Are On To Something…

05.11.09 Written by Gotty™

Last Wednesday, the Kim & the Kardashians (yes, Beefy/no, Bruce) are invited to throw out the first pitch against the Nationals. Then on Saturday, the young Simmons ladies make an appearance? Color my odd but there’s something strangely alluring about a woman in a baseball jersey. Not something I want my lady to wear with me on a weekend dinner @ Olive Garden but Kim K. in heels & a jersey, throwing > baseball’s ASG in my opinion.

Manny Being Manny…

Clemens. Bonds. Sosa. McGuire. Giambi, A-Rod. And now, Manny Ramirez.

As announced today by Major League Baseball, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez was suspended 50 games for using performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).

TSS 2009 MLB Preview: MVP’s & Patrick M.’s Four-Five

04.05.09 Written by TSSCrew

Let’s be honest — baseball games themselves can be pretty freaking boring. You’re not going to see close to as many dynamic athletic plays you as you can in basketball or football. So what do you do if you’re a baseball addict who has to sit through four hour games every day for six months? Argue. A lot. About statistics, history, fantasy baseball, MVPs, Gold Gloves, who’s overrated, who’s underrated, who’s on steroids, who’s talking shit about whom, etc. With opening day around the corner, here are some topics to start arguments.

NL MVP — Consensus Picks

1. Albert Pujols
2. Chase Utley
3. Aramis Ramirez

The mainstream media finally caught on last year: Albert Pujols is the best player in the game. Read the rest of this entry »

Is That A Syringe In Your Pocket Or Are You Just Happy To See Me?

02.07.09 Written by David D.

Remember when Bunny Colvin opened up a “no arrest” zonefor drug dealers in “>The Wire? In case you aren’t familiar with the storyline, Colvin allotted a section of town for drug dealers to roam freely in front of the police without threat of being arrested.

Apparently, Major League Baseball employed the same tactic in 2003. The league decided to hold drug tests on their players. This test, however, was only held to determine if drug testing was necessary. There were no penalties on positive tests. Just a good old mental record.

It turns out that golden boy, Alex Rodriguez tested positive during that drug testing in 2003, the same year he won the MVP. Also, 103 other players Read the rest of this entry »

“Just A Friendly Game Of Baseball…”

Up until Kanye & Luda leaked, I had been exclusively listening to mixtapes. This isn’t something I do on the reg, as I usually give them a once over & keep it moving. But in my extended listening, it became clear where the mixtape stands in relation to retail albums.

Just like in baseball, it’s the Minor Leagues. Read the rest of this entry »

“Kings Of The Hill…” – The 1998 New York Yankees

08.09.08 Written by TSSCrew

Words By D. Chanda

The Yanks weren’t always the Evil Empire—that was post-2000. A carefully-constructed team—not store-bought talent—was the reason for the four World Series titles in the late ‘90s, with 1998 seeing the Pinstripes at their pinnacle. One hundred twenty-five wins (including the postseason) is a record, and a glowing example of why the ’98 squad is always mentioned in the same breath as the ’27 team. Another reason? The spirit of the yesteryear Yanks was the hefty, ball-battering, booze-swindling Babe while the team ten years ago had their own Ruth reborn: David “Boomer” Wells. ALCS MVP and pitcher of a perfect game… while hungover. Read the rest of this entry »

Rock-N-Jock

04.03.08 Written by TSSCrew

Words By Jason Hortillas

Baseball is associated with many things but Hip-Hop? More commonly associated with sports such as basketball and football, Hip-Hop is now shining some light on America’s pastime. With a new generation of players being raised on Rap music, you can see its influence from the way they dress to their warm-up playlists on their iPod.

For years Hip-hop heads having been wearing jerseys and of course baseball caps, but you rarely see the reverse. Today you can see examples like Joba Chamberlain, relief pitcher for the New York Yankees. The Yankee franchise breeds clean-cut players a la Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter, but for Chamberlain this is definitely not the case as he was seen last Monday leaving the rained out Yankee home opener rocking a hoody, fitted cap, baggy jeans and Air Force One sneakers. Can you tell me another cat in the Major leagues doing the same? Read the rest of this entry »
