Skillz Presents Hip-Hop Confessions Episode 5

04.30.10 Written by MZ

Back with another installment of his quarterly series, Skillz took his confessional show on the road to NYC for part five.  And who can blame him?  As the epicenter of our beloved culture, the city that never sleeps has to be full of people wanting to clear their conscience.  In an effort to provide the greatest catharsis possible Skillz targeted those who’ve had a considerable amount of contact with good ‘ol Lucifer over the years.  Featuring hitmen past & present; Deric “D. Dot” Angelettie, Sean C, LV & Young Chris (thrown in for good measure) all seek the restorative powers from the VA journeyman.

Every time one of these come out, there’s always one story that stands a cut above the rest.  This time that honor goes to D. Dot.  Anytime you can combine Diddy, Ma$e, a hit record & a wager for publishing all in one tale, then your destined to win.  Sean C’s also is pretty interesting… mainly due to the fact that it involves one the other participants, which makes for nice ‘lil double whammy.

Credit has to be given to Skillz for keeping this series going.  Although he’s not flooding the block with new ones in frequent fashion, whenever one does appear, it’s always well worth the time to go through the whole video.

See y’all sometime in July.

Oh, the joy! The highly anticipated post-slavery Mason Betha mixtape is finally here! And I for one am excited! I mean, look at all the exclamation marks!!!!

Mr. Betha already announced that he would be dropping five mixtapes internationally to quell the obscenely huge buzz he has right now and appease his ravenously antsy fans and stans across the globe. Really, it’s just the same tracks hosted by five different DJ’s, but still, how exciting is that? Read the rest of this entry »

You the f*cking best!

Mr. Identity Crisis himself is seemingly back in the studio. It seems now he’s bent on defiling other people’s previously decent tracks with his decaying presence.

He and his lyrics needs to experience Read the rest of this entry »

Harry O Feat. Ron Brownz & Ma$e – “Uptown Boy” (Remix)

How’s this for an unlikely union?  Harry O, whose signed to Ja Rule’s Mpire Records, with Ron Brownz & Murda Money Makin’ Pastor G-Unit Gorilla Ma$e.  I won’t really say too much about the song, because if mainstream radio even catches a whiff of this, it’ll be in heavy rotation.  Well, let me rephrase that, sans Ma$e it’ll be in heavy rotation.

I’m not sure what pulpit they found him under, but in his honor I’d like to introduce a new a acronym into the world of Hip-Hop lexicon.  “Flow Deterioration Disease” or FDD for short.  I first noticed this Read the rest of this entry »

Live ’98

This definitely goes without saying but in terms of posse cuts:

1998>2008

You can front all you want but all these “hood anthems” we’re being bombarded with nowadays are straight up garbage, and forgettable. Does anyone remember Webbie was on the remix to “Speedin???” Who had your favorite verse on “Don’t Touch Me (Throw Da Water On ‘Em)???” And why is that we refer ever new Khaled collabo as “I’m So Hood Part ____???” The usual suspects of the era still managed to be everywhere there was a studio, but in terms of actually making an impact, the difference is vast. In this day and age, all these dudes are concerned with is cashing a check. And you can tell because that’s all their regurgitated rhymes entail.

While the days of MC’s battling on tracks for bragging rights may be an afterthought at the moment, the legacy is not. Backtrack for a few minutes with these collaborative efforts that’ll guarantee to cause chronic neck spasms when you relive them. Read the rest of this entry »
