I remember when T-Pain first arrived on the scene he appeared to be nothing more than Akon-lite.  Someone to hop on a hook when Mr. Konvict wanted to rest his vocals or go joy-riding.  Since then he’s basically usurped Akon’s spot (although he’s graciously fell to the back due in large part to Pain & Gaga) and created his own lane.  Even a few years ago, I wasn’t sold & scoffed at my barber’s request for a mix of just Pain features. Many rap crews are formed but very few are poised to be shaped into dynasties. 2009 will undoubtedly go down as the year of Young Money as Lil’ Wayne rode his popularity wave in from 2008, while staff sergeants Drake and Nicki Minaj shone bright on their own reconnaissance. The next step could be foreseen by the blindfolded: the Cash Money junioraires assemble to release an average compilation to capitalize on their current omnipresence. We Are Young Money, a platform to launch the careers of lesser known acts such as T-Streets, Lil’ Chuckee & Twist, doesn’t quite meet its goal with musical significance that’s less than stellar. With the amount of studio time Cita and Rabbit’s pride and joy has given us through out the past six years or so, it’s perfectly normal to have some of his material slip your memory. Hate him or love him, the Hip-Hop world remembers Wayne for classic verses, chart topping albums and legions of mixtapes. It is the mixtapes, however, which have earned him the cult-like following he has today.
