Loso’s Way may not make too many year-end “best of” lists but it still should be noted that Fabolous still created a fairly cohesive, entertaining and very listenable project. Sometimes, you just don’t know who to trust in the world anymore. Personally, I haven’t listened to any Jay-Z leak since “Run This Town” and don’t plan on it until the entire album is available. For clarification purposes, I have all the intentions in the world of purchasing a hard copy, mainly so I can say I completed the trifecta. Anyway, I’ve noticed something which is becoming an alarming trend in the world of Hip-Hop: mass leaking (pause…if needed). Tracks, mixtapes and albums surfacing before their intended dates have become such a regular fixture in music, most artists add it to their business plan nowadays. The mid-nineties saw Hip-Hop’s infatuation with gangster movies at an enormous peak. The late, great Notorious B.I.G. adopted his moniker from Christopher Walken’s character in King Of New York and revered storytellers like Raekwon and Kool G Rap saw their works heavily inspired by Italian families, much like the ones in Goodfellas. And who could forget Jay-Z’s various Pain in Da Ass interludes who most recently, revamped the trend with his last album American Gangster, one that mirrored the life of Frank Lucas to that of his own.

Consider Fabolous an adherent to such rich history for he’s chosen to branch out and do some role-playing of his own. Who’s excited for Fabolous’ new album? For the realm of Hip-Hop, conceptual albums are a rare delicacy; showing up as often as a periodic comet to give the game some diversity. But as the July 28th release date for Loso’s Way nears, is John Jackson’s fifth LP poised to be an audio motion picture or just the run-of-the-mill gunz n’ butter that Fabolous is known for? Maybe some newly liberated material will help give fans the same vision Fab (and executive producer DJ Clue) have for the project.
