Lupe Fiasco Feat. Trey Songz – “Out Of My Mind” Video

06.29.11 Written by TC

You already know how my team and I feel about Lasers (if you’re in the dark, click here) so need to belabor the point. Up next for the Lupester is the radio-ready, bubbly aura of “Out Of My Mind’s” cinematic presentation. Backed by his wingman, Trey Songz, who is dressed like a butler in the Hamptons, Lupe told his stylist to give him “The D.L. Hughley” and proceeds to loiter in penthouses, get chauffeured and pampered in the city as he chases a cutie through his Shallow Hal lenses. Read the rest of this entry »

Lupe Fiasco Feat. Skylar Grey – “Words I Never Said” Video

04.28.11 Written by MZ

Lupe’s current situation and talks of the Illuminati have been water cooler fodder the past few days at work. I usually don’t initiate or try to lead these conversations because it always gives me perspective of those who aren’t continually plugged into the matrix like we are. So it was funny how Lasers came up out of the blue as a topic of discussion Read the rest of this entry »

On Wiz, Rolling Papers & Atlantic, The Label That Has It All Figured Out

04.03.11 Written by David D.

Graphics By Talia

Imagine a label that’s figured it all out.

Imagine the record execs sitting at a board meeting, looking at their financial numbers, in a panic over the state of the company and the music industry in general. The company’s Hip-Hop sales have struggled – a waning roster thinned out by incarcerations and mental breakdowns has crushed the label’s star power. No matter how much money they pump into a Hip-Hop album, and how many fans artist A seems to garner, the label can’t seem to get numbers above 100K. Read the rest of this entry »

“I Don’t Wanna Care Right Now” – Review Of Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers

03.17.11 Written by Raj

Suffering three years of delays at the corporate hands of Atlantic Records, and facing the threat of an expiration-less shelf life, Lupe Fiasco decides to compromise on his third studio album, Lasers and make those few bastardy radio-pop singles in order to achieve the greater goal of getting the album out to the public ear. What started off as a request for a couple harmless, attention-grabbing tracks mutated into an all-out combat between the two parties, as song after song was scrapped from the tracklist. That is, until the Fiasco fanatics held a full scale peaceful protest to prove their willingness to hand their greenbacks to Atlantic. Read the rest of this entry »

LASERS Get Their Way: Lupe To Debut At #1 On Billboard 200

03.10.11 Written by TC

David D. may have preached the hostile gospel a week ago, but when you mix loyalists, lobbyists, and Lupe together, surprisingly, you won’t come up with a “L”. The album fans petitioned for and blew their bank accounts to help get into stores after Atlantic Records repeatedly treated Brother Fiasco like a chump is taking the gold medal in next week’s sales challenge. Thank God We Are Not Lasers

03.01.11 Written by David D.

I’ve never been one of Lupe’s Lasers, Losers or Sun Beams or whatever his loyal contingent of protesting diehards call themselves. But I’ve been a pretty big Lupe fan. Watching his career path over the last three years has been depressing. We all know about the label dispute, the anti-blog rants and the lackluster leaks, but Lasers was supposed to be the light at the end of the tunnel. Read the rest of this entry »

Lupe Fiasco – “All Black Everything”

02.22.11 Written by TSSCrew

Words by C. Paicely

The king of character rapping is back to painting images of an incomprehensible world, but this time Lupe composes a revolutionary’s euphoria. It’s a guarantee no one else would use the words Bill O’Reilly, Quran, George Bush and Iran quite the way Lupe does in “All Black Everything” and envisioning early Eminem as the socially excepted Hip-Hop norm while a black rapper fights to be heard is just as unprecedented. Lupe’s Lasers Is Real

02.21.11 Written by TC

Indeed, stranger things have happened but Lupe Fiasco’s looong-awaited third LP is realistically slated to hit shelves on 3.8.11. No more pushbacks, false starts or trickery. In other words, the show goes on. One of the worst things for a musician, mainly a rapper, is to be idle without a project to promote or look forward. Another is Twitter. The Words Lupe Fiasco Never Said Until Now

02.01.11 Written by J. Tinsley

I think that all the silence is worst than all the violence/Fear is such a weak emotion that’s why I despise it…

The road to Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers has been well documented. With so many happenings – or setbacks, rather – in the album’s progression, frustration has obviously been nearing code red levels. For such a poigiant artist as Fiasco, the process has been difficult and, at times, annoying to witness. Read the rest of this entry »

Lupe Fiasco – “The Show Goes On” Video

12.27.10 Written by MZ

Lupe owns an impeccable, albeit short discography yet pretty much everything he’s done outside of retail releases is nearly forgettable aside from his early Fahrenheit releases. And despite having more stalls than Diddy’s last train, Lasers has finally received an official release date along with some sort of push from Atlantic and we can finally pay attention to him again. Lupe Fiasco – “The Show Goes On”

10.29.10 Written by S.Cadet

Media swore Lupe’s machine was out of control as evidenced by a temporarily shelved album, well publicized label politics, blog “bans” and a protest tagged to his name. Then Mr. Fiasco returned things to normalcy with a few key features, a release date and a lead single in “The Show Goes On.” The song’s title and underdog theme may sound like a response to much of the flack he’s received. But I’ll chalk it up as a coincidence since he makes little mention of his detractors. Read the rest of this entry »

Lupe Fiasco Feat. All City Chess Club – “We Beamin’ (Remix)”

10.15.10 Written by Beware

Despite what Arthur from work says, All City Chess Club aren’t just a bunch of dorks who decided to do a woodwind version of Lupe’s lead single. No, this mentally-stimulated group happens to consist of a few rappers you might have heard of, named Asher, Sonic, Lupe, Chuck & Mikey, Blu, Diggy, Bobby Ray, Dosage and a few others who missed this particular match. Free Lupe!

07.22.10 Written by J. Tinsley

There was a time when I would have fought hard for Lupe. Now, not so much. That’s not to say I’m not a fan of dude’s work and won’t support it when the time comes because I will. As in a lot of cases though, the reasoning for Lupe’s new album being held hostage for the past year isn’t his doing at all. It’s Atlantic Record’s. For months, Lupe fans have been up at arms about the lack of action surrounding his highly anticipated third project, Lasers. Read the rest of this entry »
