Kurupt Feat. DJ Quik – “Take It Off”

09.30.11 Written by Beware

When DJ Quik and Kurupt dropped their BlaQKout album back in 2009, there were quite a few diehard fans who felt the much-anticipated project lacked the gusto expected from the two Westcoast vets. However, the letdown occurred because there weren’t many songs like “Take It Off.” Read the rest of this entry »

WC Feat. Daz, Kurupt, Soopafly & Bad Lucc – “Stick To The Script” Video

08.05.11 Written by Beware

For better or worse, WC, Soopafly & Tha Dogg Pound definitely tend to “Stick To The Script” and have for their entire career. Never straying far from their killa’ Cali lifestyle and weed chronicles, these hoodlums-turned-hood-heroes continually rep the same themes song and song again, Read the rest of this entry »

Event: Red Bull EmSee Rocks The City Of Angels

If there is one thing that brings me utmost joy, it’s seeing high end companies get themselves involved for the betterment of Hip-Hop. Anyone who experienced one of Scion’s tours a couple years ago can attest to the fact that free shows, courtesy of the right sponsors, can boost morale as well as increase the awareness of noteworthy music. Terrace Martin & Devi Dev Have More Sex

05.25.11 Written by J. Tinsley

Now I do not know Terrace or Devi so hopefully the title does not offend anybody. It was just too good to ignore. Anyway, the duo’s track record for releasing quality music together is proven with their most recent initiative being this year’s The Sex EP. A slight bit of controversy surrounded its release as well. Kim Kardashian damn near blew her top (no pun intended, ok maybe a tad) upon finding her mammary glands on the cover and attempted to have it removed from every corner of the Internet. First Listen: Strong Arm Steady’s Arms & Hammers

02.10.11 Written by TC

Home to Rip Ridaz and Damus, palm trees, sandy beaches and a million and one sports teams, California needs a wide scope to capture the ambiance of its daily happenings. And since two heads are better than one, Strong Arm Steady has extra insurance on their investment with three members in Krondon, Mitchy Slick and Phil Da Agony. Bleeding the West Coast in every step of their walk, Read the rest of this entry »

Terrace Martin Feat. Kendrick Lamar, Kurupt & Bad Lucc – “Get Bizy”

12.29.10 Written by Beware

While a few other sites had this listed without Terrace Martin, it’s only right to include his name in the tagline, seeing as it’s obvious he orchestrated the track. Upon hearing the Hip-Hop aficionado introduce these three California bar-brawlers, then lace them with his weighty drums and violin-based beat, it became obvious whose idea the MPC concoction was and who decided to call over the hottest MCs he could find for an impromptu studio session.

And, I’ll tell you what, I think Bad Lucc and young Kendrick brought the best out of Kurupt.

The iPod Shuffle – “The Brother”

12.06.10 Written by Beware

This song was brought up briefly before, but in the two years since I last had access to Roscoe’s intimate cover of The Cheers theme song, the link has died and so had my recollection of how good “The Brother” actually is. Since Kurupt’s just-as-talented sibling hasn’t been heard from lately, I was pleased to snag this song off an old CD I made my mom for Mother’s Day. Read the rest of this entry »

Terrace Martin Yearns For His Anna Gordy

10.19.10 Written by TC

Don’t judge him. Heartache can transform you into an oddball creature all the same. You too may find yourself in a coke-induced, fashion disaster if Devi Dev didn’t appear in any of your videos. But top props go to Terrace Martin for creating a body of work that deviates outside of the norm of today which largely consists of some sort of “Flu” or swag-associated madness. Terrace Martin x Devi Dev – Here, My Dear

09.29.10 Written by TC

Terrace Martin is one smart cookie. He knew that his musical expertise associated with any project would make it respected. He knew that by paying homage to Marvin’s classic baby-maker would garner some interest. And he also knew that throwing Houston’s newest angel, Devi Dev into the fray would just sexify the entire thing up 10x. Seriously, have you seen the smile on that woman? Yeah, Snoop, Wiz Khalifa, U-N-I and few other notables are present but Devi’s personality puts this project in a whole ‘nother perspective. Read the rest of this entry »

“Huh What” – Review Of Tha Dogg Pound’s Keep On Ridin

07.21.10 Written by Patrick M.

If they haven’t reached the legendary status of some of their L.A. brethren, Kurupt and Daz have carved out quite solid Hip-Hop careers, both as solo artists and of course as members of the underrated Dogg Pound. Evidently hoping to bring back memories of the glory days, the duo is back with the album Keep on Ridin’. Diehards of 90′s West Coast will appreciate the effort, but the album’s dated feel doesn’t speak well to the O.G.’s future as influencers of Los Angeles’ rap scene. Read the rest of this entry »

When legends collide, all you can say is “Yessir.” We already told you Streetlights is worth the bread but watch as Young Gotti and the Soul Survivor lay out the butter with this Flipcam footage for one of the album’s best tracks. “Yessir” – Review Of Kurupt’s Streetlights

06.11.10 Written by K1NG

Kurupt has been handling microphones for longer than most Hip-Hop listeners have been handling responsibilities. With a catalogue deeper and more substantial than just about any other artist in the game, his name still doesn’t ring as loud as it should amongst most Hip-Hop circles. It truly is a shame, but like most pioneers in rap, his legacy is disregarded by most of the new generation of enthusiasts. Read the rest of this entry »

Xzibit – “Phenom”

05.21.10 Written by TC

Last time we heard something official from Mr. X to tha Z, he was rhyming “concentrate” with “eat some steak” and other lines of non sequiturs. Hip-Hop was convinced he was still better than that, so he’s taking timeout from Hollywood to stake his claim as a prominent voice in the West, once again. Kind of like the album’s title MMX. The Roman numerals indicate a return to the basics while their meaning, 2010 revels in the present day. Read the rest of this entry »
