Jim Jones just might be headed down the wrong career track. If the sales of Pray IV Reign were any indication (and the actual music itself), folks aren’t too inclined hearing Jim spit without the likes of Juelz and Cam (or Max, for that matter) propping him up by providing him up surrounding him with their ghostwritten prose guest verses. However, one area where Jim has shown considerable aptitude (besides ad-libbin’, of course) is video direction. What The Game’s Been Missing is one of my personal favorite albums from 2005 & was found in multiple top 10 lists across the net. At the time, Juelz was on fire, dropping great verses everywhere he found an open 16 worth his attention. Somewhere along the line however, his rapping seemed to take a backseat to his affiliations. Whether it was separating himself from his former crew, trying to start his own crew or hanging onto the coat tails of the now megastar Lil’ Wayne, it seemed like his lyrical content became just a secondary asset to his persona. The beautiful thing about music is that, unlike sports (football season can’t start quick enough, by the way), it lasts all year. Sure, some days tend to be a tad faster than others and certain quarters of the year may house more anticipated releases, but “off days” are few and far between. However, for those moments when the music industry seems to move at a snail pace, diggin’ through the e-crates never gets old, especially when you recall what you were doing around the time a specific project was released.
The summer of 2006 happened to be one of those moments. Aside from marking the first time I began living on my own and the official halfway point of my collegiate career, three particular releases pretty much defined that point of my life, at least musically. It’s moments such as these which make Diplomatic Immunity 1 sound that much better. For the remaining few who still held on the sliver of hope for a Dipset resurrection, kill the noise.
Earlier this year, Santana spoke on the alleged break up proclaiming that his “day one n*ggas, ain’t actin’ like my day one n*ggas”. Who knows if this was the inspiration for Cam’s new wordage, but whatever the reason is, he said it with more than enough emphasis in front of a packed house at B.B. Kings last week (the footage just leaked). In hindsight, it is sad to see a once powerful crew subjected to these sort of acts. But if Juelz does decide to respond, let’s all pray he doesn’t allow those Skull Gang characters within 200 feet of a working microphone and a record button.
As if things couldn’t get any stranger, one break up leads to the most unlikely of reunions.Over a decade removed from their classic collaboration, New York City’s greatest blacktop duo hits the studio again with Mase demanding “Diddy percent” for another comeback and Cam proclaiming “Murda’s home”. Money talks and beef ends, apparently. If my algebra serves me correctly, the situation looks like this:
– Jimmy is cool with Mase, Mase is cool with Jimmy.
– Jimmy wants to be cool with Cam, but Cam isn’t messing with Jim.
– Cam is cool with Mase, and Mase is cool with Cam, thus leaving Mase as the middle man.
Harlem World’s back (almost). Don’t expect Loon to be apart of the festivites, however.
I guess that previous footage of brand new BRFF’s Gucci & Big Boi wasn’t a farce because Sir Leftfoot drops off his verse & even Juelz pops up for an appearance.
Juelz sounds revigorated wtith this track off his upcoming album Born To Lose, Built To Win. This is a nice start, but he’ll need to drop about 5 or 6 more along these lines for me to take notice. I still haven’t forgot about “Mic Check” & the ensuing What The Game’s Been Missing!, which for some reason is in my possesion. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
So keep ‘em coming Juelz, because I’m a quick learner.

So Juelz & Wayne’s long-awaited I Can’t Feel My Face may finally see the light of day.

My interest in this tape is nonexistent so I’ll just consider this public service work, passing it along for those in the want. Maybe one of the rest of them will come around later & say good things about these leaks or the tape itself. But for me, it’s too little, too late.

TSS: (Laughs) I’m saying is there anything you can do on your end for reconciliation.
Cam’ron: Well you know it’s not in my near future. I don’t never wanna say never but I got a lot going on this year. With two movies, two soundtracks and two albums, my year’s pretty filled up so it’s definitely not gonna happen this year. Never say never though!

Let’s face it: BET’s The Deal is no Rap City. It’s not even a Rap avenue for that matter. Even with the increasing number of non-musical programming, you could always count on Rap City as an outlet for the more commonplace Hip-Hop that probably didn’t mean shit to CCC, but were valuable to fans of the culture. Now it’s up to the net to keep the awareness alive. Here’s some of best videos of the last week or so.
