Nevertheless, the man behind “Dead Presidents” rise from the ashes has nothing to do with luck, but rather an ability to consistently craft pristine tracks for young MCs like Curren$y and Jay Electronica. All he had to do was enlist a group of A-list features and an equally esteemed producer and the job was virtually done for him. No matter the dismal quality of his recent mixtapes, Game has consistently shown that he is capable of putting out quality, trunk-pounding music and this song is definitely a step in the right direction. Last Tuesday night, Jay Electronica was the slated headliner at the Highline Ballroom. It must have slipped my mind that Joell Ortiz was named as co-headliner, but the BK representer made sure to give the Slaughterhouse Stans filling the place their due. Imagine a stage packed with Big, Yela and Jay Elec. Sounds inviting to say the least, right? Imagine that show going down for free, no costs or entry fee. When Fadia told me this show was going down, I initially thought she was pulling my leg, especially when she said it’d be free. But being the mover and shaker that she is, her mysteriously strong arm was allowed her to link with KIN and their series of secret shows, bringing the aforementioned trio to Shriner’s Auditorium in the A.

Since I was already committed to tomorrow’s panel, driving to Atlanta on consecutive Thursdays wasn’t a move I wanted to make. But given the footage below and the reports back, I’m now kicking myself squarely in the backpockets.

Let’s backtrack, first. A few days ago, Jay Electronica had an interview where he spoke his mind about how he felt disrespected by The RZA saying that southern rappers were wack and unintelligent. While Jay was unable to cite where or when he heard RZA say this, he’s sure it happened. The N.O. MC took offense to these statements and is still a little bitter to this day.
