I didn’t intentionally mean to go back to the Shaft OST for a Daily Funk. But I had the player on random while I was assembling tracks & listening for inspiration and this joint popped up. Since I’ve missed a day or two of these, what better way to slide right back into the groove than with an appropriately titled track. Smooth like silk I am.

This lifesize poster of the “Black Moses” Isaac Hayes hangs in my family’s basement, better known as my parents’ DJ headquarters. His arms are outstretched with the silent promise to give his adoring masses what they wanted: pure unadulterated soul and funk. There is not very much to say when a legend passes away. There’s even less to say when two leave us, two days in a row.

Hayes was truly a soul music pioneer and monumental force in the entertainment industry for half a century.

He will truly be missed.
