The iPod Shuffle – Soul For Real’s “Candy Rain”

01.30.12 Written by J. Tinsley

Go ahead. Listen to Soul For Real’s “Candy Rain” and not sing along. I dare you. In fact, I triple dog dare you so you know it’s real. I heard this Friday night at a spot called Fishbowl and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. Read the rest of this entry »

In Photos: Stars Pay Tribute At Heavy D’s Funeral

11.19.11 Written by Gotty™

Heavy D. received a sendoff befitting his “Mr. Big Stuff” nickname as rap luminaries and entertainers across the board gathered at Grace Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, NY for a private funeral held in Hev’s honor and billed as a celebration of his life. The rapper, born Dwight Myers, died at age 44 last week in Los Angeles from what the family said were complications of pneumonia. Read the rest of this entry »

Loosies: Busta Rhymes’ Heavy D Tribute, Lil Kim’s Nicki Minaj Diss, T.I. & Raekwon

11.10.11 Written by Beware

The angle Busta took on this tribute to his homie Heavy D is different, but admirable. Instead of sorting through memories of the multi-talented Hip-Hop legend with his pen, the always-energetic MC spreads the love and asks listeners to honor the people we cherish while they’re still breathing. One Last Run: Listen To Hot 97′s Heavy D Tribute

11.10.11 Written by S.Cadet

Hating on the radio is everything from fashionable to justifiable these days. Yet, every once in awhile, you hear a string of songs hand picked by a DJ without regard to BDS. These moments are sadly regularly witnessed in times of loss. At the same time, as evidenced by Mister Cee’s Heavy D tribute, they’re still appreciated when they come up. Peaceful Journey: Heavy D’s Taped Last Interview

11.09.11 Written by TC

While the causes surrounding Heavy D’s untimely passing are still a little sketchy, we do know that he was touring through Europe, promoting his latest album, Love Opus, prior to returning home to Los Angeles. During his stay in the U.K., Tim Westwood had the now-bittersweet pleasure of conducting the Heavster’s last interview, which ironically gives a full-fledged overview of his entire career. 11.08.11 Written by TC

Hip-Hop/R&B hybrid pioneer and actor, Heavy D. died suddenly in Los Angeles this afternoon at the age of 44. Back when rappers were known just as much as their dance moves for rhymes, the man born Dwight Arrington Myers was the frontman for his group, Heavy D. & The Boyz, best known for their chart-topping single, “Now That We Found Love.” Read the rest of this entry »

JoiStaRR – “Yellow” Video

06.21.11 Written by TC

If someone smiles at you and it comes out “yellow,” that’s generally not a good thing. But that’s not quite the hue correlation JoiStaRR is referring to. Symmetrically aligning herself with bright futures off the strength of her solid Broccoli & Noodles project, she’s singing to the sun in her latest visual directed by none other than Heavy Diddly-Diddly-Diddly-Dee. The King, The Clown & The G…

10.14.09 Written by Beware

Being a proud Technician myself, it was kind of dope to hear Tech N9ne graciously describe his thoughts on the mixed bag of fans that comprise his raucous shows to DJ Peter Parker. I’ve seen the Killa Clown decimate the stage three times now and every time it’s always the most random people who lean towards his music. Read the rest of this entry »

“Show You How…”

03.05.09 Written by Gotty™

By the time I posted the CD changer piece, I had already moved on to a more finite problem, one that had already begun to take place in the comments.

Ranking Jay’s discography, The Blueprint 2 is top ranking by my standards (only after barely nipping The Black Album in a close race). The only problem for me is which disc: Disc One or Disc Two? Read the rest of this entry »
