Killer Mike’s Introduces Sports Sundays

02.28.10 Written by Gotty™

I was content without doing another post, cold chillin’ for the rest of the evening. I told Legend I was going to start taking the weekends off like the Rock bloggers. Then Maurice hit my inbox with two new Mike tracks so that felt worthy of ending my repose. While I’m rejoicing, I’m also too lazy to type up a full-fledged post so… Read the rest of this entry »

B.o.B. x DJ Drama x LRG – May 25th Mixtape

02.01.10 Written by TC

By now, you should know Bobby Ray is involved in a lot of mixtapes, and he does them well. The kicker, and what makes May 25th so special is the fact that it was named after the release date for his Atlantic Records/Grand Hustle debut album The Adventures of Bobby Ray. That’s right, B.o.B.’s grind will finally pay off this spring but for now, enjoy the new flavor presented by DJ Drama, DJ Sense and LRG and contributions from Asher Roth, J. Cole and Bruno Mars. Yung LA Feat. Young Dro – “Everywhere”

01.21.10 Written by TC

Not these two young’ns again. Back with yet another potential club anthem–with no tangible album info on the horizon. Whatever. Grand Hu$tle’s wonder twins, Dro and Yung Leland, score a winner which will surely be proceeded by a video as well as a bajillion bootleg mixtapes revolving around the track. 8Ball & MJG Feat. Young Dro – “Bring It Back”

01.16.10 Written by Gotty™

Their time spent @ Grand Hustle hasn’t seen much by way of productivity from 8Ball the fat mack and M-J-fuckin-G. While everyone else on or affiliated with the label was making their majority of moves in Cliff’s absence, the duo was quiet for the most. New year here, Tip’s out and maybe “Bring It Back” is the invocation to what’s to come. While it doesn’t harken back to their glory days, it does feel more authentic than work produced during their brief stint with Bad Boy.

And if you’re a fan of Dro’s ad-libbing abilities, he’s okay here. I almost chalked his appearance off @ first because he started with the Yung LA inflections. But he switched it up midstroke, diggin’ his heels in a little and throwing out a “girls suck me fast, Road Runner brain (beep beep)” just to keep me laughing and hopeful that he still knows what made him a fan favorite.

T.I.’s Home?

In somewhat of a silent shocker, the above Twitter message by @AmirGrandHustle seems to indicate that one Clifford Harris has been released from federal custody. Early buzz last week was a January release to a halfway house. But if he’s home… Read the rest of this entry »

Yung LA Feat. Young Dro & Big Kuntry – “Damn I Look Good”

I can’t completely vouch for this song, mostly because Yung LA sets his standard for rhymes about as high Tiger Woods sets his standard for women, but I think this fresh-friendly potential single should up the ASCAP checks for these Grand Hustle role players. Read the rest of this entry »

“Let ‘Em Talk…”

11.23.09 Written by J. Tinsley

grand-hustle

While I do respect LC, Gotty and Sheed’s disdain towards Twitter, if you’re following the right people, you can come up on some not-so-frequently-found tunes. The homie Haze from DGB is constantly uploading some crazy stuff on his page, usually in the form of down south country rap tunes. *Salutes Haze*

Brandon, of the production duo Nard & B, grabs his Grand Hustle kinfolk, Big Kuntry and T.I., for a track which, to my knowledge, had been unreleased until last night. From the sound of things, it appears to be a dated record, but Clifford’s mention of sentencing and prison would lead me to believe otherwise. Regardless, Tip and Kuntry trade vocals about their feelings on those who may not necessarily appreciate what they bring to the rap game and how their Hustle will forever remain Grand. Loyalty. It sure does seem to be shunned upon nowadays doesn’t it? Ahh, well.

One last thing though. Free T.I.

MacBoney – Mac Hussein Mixtape

11.16.09 Written by J. Tinsley

machussein-blvdst-1018x1024

I’m not sure how many reflect this sentiment, but P$C’s 25 To Life album was pretty damn good in my eyes. Hell, I even bought it. Without getting too much into it, we all know who the face of Grand Hustle is, but it is his longtime Bankhead cohorts, Big Kuntry, C-Rod and MacBoney who have always served as vital role players. That said, I was pleased to hear Mac was dropping a mixtape Monday entitled Mac Hussein.

The homie Burn One touted the tape as the return of the raw, uncut sound of ATL Hip-Hop, not the majority of material you hear today. Ultimately, that’s up for you to decide, but I do recommend downloading the tape if you need some music to serve as the soundtrack for your ride around town. If you’re still not sold, I’ve compiled a list of reasons to take three minutes out of your day and download this.

1. Production from 1500 or Nothin’, Zaytoven and Nard & B.

2. Features from Killer Mike Bigga, Kingpin “Skinny Pimp”, Mistah FAB, T.I., Big Kuntry, Young Dro and others.

3. You’ll be feeling like a D-boy in no time.

4. This was going to go with #1, but it deserved it’s own recognition. A nine-year-old, DJ Prophet, produced the intro. That’s right, he was born in the year 2000.

Say what you please, but Grand Hustle has talent on their roster. This may be beyond all realms of possibilities, but I wouldn’t mind another P$C album (or mixtape). I mean, you know who is coming home in t-minus four months.

Young Dro Feat. Yung LA – “I Don’t Know Y’all” Video

11.03.09 Written by TC

To call Young Dro’s latest clip “animated” would be a severe understatement. With depicted scenery functioning like real-life oil paintings, it’s literally a work of an art. Grand Hustle’s pinch hitters prove their vision can be as colorful as their lyrics. Read the rest of this entry »

Pardon me, but I was unfamiliar with this one so if I’m remiss and it’s been released before…who cares. Rappers release so many mixtape and non-album tracks it’s hard for even the most steadfast of fans and Stans to keep up. The more important thing is this makes the second Macboney appearance I’ve seen this week. Things may be looking up for gangsters. Read the rest of this entry »

Don Cannon & Young Dro Present R.I.P.

10.19.09 Written by Gotty™

young-dro-don-cannon-rip-mixtape-back-cover

This Dro & Cannon mixtape is nearly three weeks late (it was originally scheduled for 10.1) and we’re all overdue for new material Grand Hustle’s de facto face-of-the-label during T.I.P’s incarceration. As a result, I know a forum full of disappointed fans that have been voicing their displeasure @ the wait for this one. But who can really complain about free? And what better way to get a Monday in motion than to hear Dro talk about the kaleidoscope of colors that make up his cars and clothes? Read the rest of this entry »

From Killer To Bigga…

09.21.09 Written by Beware

killer-mike-540

We told ‘em last week that certain Rappers Desperately Need A Name Change because they could never be marketed correctly (or taken seriously in some cases) and now ATL’s favorite nephew Killer Mike has announced to AllHipHop that he will forever be known as Mike Bigga.

“I’m going with the name Mike Bigga because I really feel like I’m bigger than what I have been in the past and I’ve managed to get legendary status from being a raw rap guy in terms of being able to come out of the shadows of the hardships I’ve had,” the entertainer said as he referenced recent tragedies that have occurred in his area.

“I’ve become my own boss in a bigger partnership with Grind Time Official and Grand Hustle now and I’m just on to bigger and better things,” Bigga continued. “And I figure what better time now, going into this new season that’s going to be coming up in January when Tip get out and let the world know I’m on to bigger and better things.”

Fair enough.

Still, Mike, you’re a smart dude. You could’ve been a little more clever than simply adding ‘Bigga.’ There’s too many Big’s and Lil’s as is. That’s just my 2¢, though. What do I know?
