Cee-Lo Green Returns To Rap, Promises New Goodie Mob & Gnarls Barkley Albums

06.26.11 Written by Gotty™

Watching Cee-Lo’s stock continuing to rise as a judge of The Voice, I thought we’d lost another rapper to other interests. However, the do-everything-guy recently told The Source that he has full intentions of rapping again and that a new Goodie album is in the works. Green shared that both it and a Gnarls Barkley LP are on the horizon but he would be “completing a Goodie Mob album first.” When asked if he missed rapping, he replied “Yeah I actually I really do…Goodie Mob is here to stay and so is Hip Hop. And we as a community need help, and I’m apart of the community, so I believe doing another Goodie Mob Album is doing a civil service, if you will.”

Now, if only another famed Atlanta MC would do his Hip-Hop civic duty.

The Ni##a Experience…

Is it a safe assumption that Cee-Lo was more persuasive in getting his ethnic points across in one verse than Nas was in an entire album?

Better believe that Slick…

In what was possibly the most responsible abuse of the word “nigga” ever witnessed in a song, (Lo dropped approximately 30 N-bombs in under 3 minutes), the prelude for Goodie Mo-B’s sophomore stride served not only as an immediate attention grabber, but as an internal analysis of one of the most controversial words this world has ever encountered. Gnarls Barkley – “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul” Video

07.23.08 Written by Gotty™

I’m usually working with a video-deficiency so I’m not 100% sure this is new. But Kelvin Mercer Lookalike shot it to me earlier today while I was running around. It is under MTV’s Premieres section. No matter what, it’s the best track on the album so I’m grateful there’s a visual for it.

“Short, But Sweet…”

06.06.08 Written by TSSCrew

Words By Darius Sinclairâ„¢

Is there a song you just really dig but it’s unusually short, clocking in at under the usual four minute mark? You usually wish it was longer. Maybe we love it so much because they are so short, and if they were longer, we wouldn’t love them the same. But here’s a few I compiled that could be longer…but I love them just the same.

Gnarls Barkley – “Go Go Gadget Gospel” (2:19)

At over 100 BPMs, songs this breakneck are played at house clubs and are usually for juking. But when the subject matter is the “gospel,” and Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse are on the track, we’ve learned to expect something…different. Nevertheless, this track is so infectious. I don’t know if it’s the quirky vocals from Pastor Green, the digital horns, or the choir’s “Na na na na na na na,” but this song puts you in another world if you really listen to it. Imagine a great, big party in the pews, with the choir members break-dancing, Ray Charles on the organ, Buddy Miles on drums and Mother Mahalia Jackson starts jumping with her hands and face to the sky, “Hallelujah!”…Then it’s over.

Method Man & Redman – “Da Rockwilder” (2:16)

Rockwilder was the super producer to go to at the turn of the millennium. His futuristic beat, on this one, syths and all had the hardest of knuckle-heads nodding away. But why couldn’t he double this track for Tical and the Funk Doc? Read the rest of this entry »

Front Back & Side To Side…

04.20.08 Written by Gotty™

Just to show you how ill mind’s work, I was having a convo with my dude about Mr. Green & Mr. Mouse deciding to release a backwards version of The Odd Couple. Eventually, the discussion led to the question – “What albums do you know word-for-word, front to back?

I’m not a karoake dude, but if you cued any of the following & gave me a mic, I’d take on any bettors that I can go verbatim on these…

Nas – Illmatic

The default album of choice when I’m singin’ in the shower. I can literally go verbatim with Nasir on this one.

Keith Sweat – Make It Last Forever

It’s sort of how Chris Rock quipped that the best albums come from the most memorable times in your life. Well as a junior high student, touching asses while slow-draggin’ with a bird was a memorable occasion. Read the rest of this entry »
