Two years ago I attended a Wizards/Cavs game while in grad school at Georgetown. The rumor of Shaq shacking up with Gilbert Arenas’ woman was the elephant in the room, so I’m assuming Agent Zero has been enjoying the fruits of the single life since then. He’s a professional basketball player which means women throwing themselves at him is probably something he’s become accustomed for quite some time now. The random scoop and score missions with groupies from Disneyworld to Disneyland probably get old after awhile causing for the need to switch things up. Understandable, right? I know have the same problem all the time. With this logic in mind, what did the gun-loving, eccentric Orlando Magician do?

He went on a blind date, that’s what.

To make the situation even better, the date sucked. Not that I wish any ill-will in the relationship department for Gil, but train wrecks always make for funnier stories than fairy tales. And you know what makes this situation more hilarious? He tweeted the entire thing. Follow the rambuncious commentary below from his @agentzeroshow account:

Let this marinate for a moment. Next season, Gil’s scheduled to make $19.3M with a player option for $20.8M in 2012-2013. Maybe the young lady has morals and is not impressed with his earning potential and never speaks to Zero again. That’d be commendable. But trust and believe there are plenty more women out there willing to get in the triple threat position at the drop of dime. They’d probably let Gilbert Twitpic the entire thing, too.

With his reinvigorated play as of late, Gilbert looks like he dipped in Ponce de León’s pool shortly after landing in Orlando. Conjuring up a little bit of magic on Monday at the end of the third second quarter versus the Nets, Arenas hit a 3/4 length buzzer beater that was all for naught because the shot clock is considered out of bounds. Somewhere between a lack of judgment and media sensationalism lies the Gilbert Arenas saga. Gil is currently awaiting a late March sentencing date where he could receive upwards of six months in prison. Charles, Kenny and Ernie recently spoke about the entire situation during a recent Inside The NBA telecast. Regardless whether you tend to agree with them or not, clips like this make these make it one of the premiere sports shows in rotation. Chuck reflects the sentiments that Gil’s mistake doesn’t warrant him losing the remainder of his contract (somewhere near $90M). Kenny, on the other hand, believes a suspension is the only logical explanation for his actions, while Ernie poses the $50M question, “If this violates his contract, then why can’t they rip it up?”

And somehow, someway, I find myself right in the middle. He deserves it, but he doesn’t. I’m of the belief the entire story was never truly told. That’s water under the bridge in the grand scheme of things, I assume. Regardless you made your own bed, Gil. Make it up or lay in it.

For years, the folks at Turntable Lab have mastered sports commentary on cotton. T-Lab had to be quick on the trigger (that was too easy) to put out their latest tee, “Free Gilbert.” The shirt is irony at its best, using the Bullets name – the former name of the Washington franchise – and logo. The Gilbert Arenas saga encapsulates so many different issues and contradictions present in American culture at the end of the decade. The original story, leaked by the New York Post, appears to have totally misconstrued what happened. Yet, the story ran anyway as timeliness took precedence over fact-checking.
