Rock Steady’s DV One back with another Monday morning podcast delivery that revolves around pimpin’ and pandering music, or as he so eloquently put it “instead of a soundtrack its the track sound.” Well worth a listen because you can forget simply moving through genres; DV moves through decades of recognizable tracks. But each one is hand selected, making it all seem as if each song was originally made with the intent of putting a battery in the back of macks (and wannabees too). Toby Fresh, aka DV One, releases his 20th “mix mailer” where he puts together the music then (originally) mails out or posts it on his site.

Today is the day that my 20th mix mailer is released, and what a wonderful way to celebrate. Most of y’all have the day off and can sit back and listen to the newest addition to my LIVE mix collection. Every other Sunday I group up some records, make a playlist, mix them, record it LIVE, and then send it to you!

27 minutes of funk, this ain’t no junk. My favorite part of his mixes are the authentic feel to them. There’s an air & sound around his mixes as if you’re sitting on the couch while he spins in his mom’s basement, smoking L’s & relaxing. After a couple of puff puff passes, he brings together an almost unnatural selection of songs & says “watch me make this work”…then proceeds to make it happen.

We did an all Rocafella tribute night which was off the METER. This week’s mix is a snippet of the type of joints I played. The crowd was feelin it, so I’m sure you will be too. As always listen, download, and enjoy…And don’t be mad…I obviously couldn’t fit EVERY Roc-A-Fella song in there.

We’re all music nerds, otherwise we wouldn’t congregate here on the daily to commiserate about the topic. And chances are no matter how deep/shallow our pockets may be, we will all invest some time to find the perfect song to send to some bird we have our eye on, create some “sultry” mix for a loved one…or playlist to get high/drunk to because “we don’t believe in that love shit.” That’s what music lovers do; they use song to transmit their feelings to loved/lusted ones.

In conversation several days ago, I mentioned to my man that the idea of “gangsta” music is a farce in this day & age. While “street” music still exists, the buying public is no longer under the blinded belief that Rapper A is actually out there trappin’ & cappin’ before descending on the studio to record it all on the reels.
