Dallas Mavs Get Company On Bench…During Game

01.11.12 Written by Beware

For anyone who doesn’t know how arena seating in professional wrestling works, typically when the stadiums are bare, they black out the top rows and bring everyone down to the lower bowl. Well, aside from just becoming junior varsity, apparently my Pistons are also turning into 1996-era WWF, because two regular ol’ dudes were just max relaxin’ between Vince Carter and LeBron’s step-dad on the Mavs bench during last night’s game. Detroit Pistons Offering Free “Snow Day” Tickets

02.02.11 Written by Beware

Typically, I just get a bunch of mediocre music in my inbox. Now, I’m getting tickets for half-*ss basketball too. Instead of postponing this meaningless game until after the roads weren’t deathtraps, the Detroit Pistons organization is offering free tickets to tonight’s match-up at The Palace versus the Bobcats. Charlie Villanueva Is A Snitch

11.03.10 Written by TC

The headlines read “Kevin Garnett Called Charlie Villanueva A Cancer Patient.” I’d rather you hone in my title instead. Sure, now that the off-color comment has hit the national media, it paints KG as an insensitive, immoral asshole but the context given was trash talk. Off-the-record, on-the-court, unadulterated trash talk. It has been around since the days of peach baskets and will be around long after they make hologram ones. Read the rest of this entry »

During last Wednesday night’s game, the Pistons’ Rodney Stuckey did not push Iverson. Nor did Iverson “slip.” Read the rest of this entry »

Allen Iverson Issues Retirement Statement

11.26.09 Written by Patrick M.

After a few weeks of speculation, Allen Iverson, one of my favorite athletes ever and one of the most controversial of my lifetime, is publicly hanging up his famed Reeboks. Unhappy with his playing time in Memphis, AI apparently was unable to find any team willing to take a flyer on him. As a Celtics fan I can tell you this: He’s better than Eddie House. The Thrill…

11.12.09 Written by Beware

Since the last basketball-related post I did was lambasted, I figured I’d throw up something undisputed.

Thanks to Will “The Thrill” Bynum and his Spud Webb-like vertical, my Detroit Pistons have been plastered all over ESPN for good reason. I was watching the game live last night and actually missed this early dunk-of-the-year candidate by a split second, as I was screwing around with this friggin’ place, but luckily my man George Blaha got excited enough for all of us. Not to mention, Willy B did it AGAIN in the third (without posterizing Tyson Chandler, however).

As the homegirl Natalie likes to say over @ Need4Sheed….”That’s Bynumite!”

The Last Days Of Allen Iverson…

allen_iverson_his_rookie_year030308122059gif

Look at that man and honestly tell you me didn’t expect more.

This prospective first-ballot Hall-of-Famer and all-around baller was once the one of the defining players among a generation of young, athletic NBA superstars. Ones who would usher in David Stern’s new look post-lockout NBA. Rocking an aura as big as his game, this undersized combo-guard had the drive and compassion to carry a notoriously lackluster team to the NBA playoffs year after aching year Read the rest of this entry »

TSS NBA Preview 2009: Eastern Conference

10.27.09 Written by TSSCrew

The NBA Season is still young and TSS is keeping the ball in play. We hit you off with the West, now it’s time to bicker about the Eastern Conference Standings. The East is has a top heavy talent pool but it’s full of compelling storylines that’ll keep you tuned in. The Celtics are back, healthy and ready for another run at the chip. Meanwhile LBJ is still climbing for the mountain top while Orlando knows what it takes to get there. But screw all that serious stuff. Gilbert Arenas is back ladies and gentlemen. Who knows what kind of off the wall antics he’s capable of pulling this year? Hold that thought and check out our picks. Read the rest of this entry »

One & Done: Detroit Pistons Fire Michael Curry

07.01.09 Written by S.Cadet

michael-curry-1

Last year, I scratched my head when Joe Dumars gave Michael Curry the go ahead to be the Piston’s head coach. He must have noticed something behind the scenes because I couldn’t see how he was qualified to succeed Flip Saunders. Then again everyone has to start somewhere right? Dude played for the Pistons plus worked as an assistant coach so his dues were paid at least.

A losing record and an embarrassing sweep later and he’s out of the job.

The 2008-09 season was underwhelming for Detroit, but I wouldn’t put all the blame on Curry. The Pistons started off the year pretty well until that WTF?!?!-inducing money trade went down in November. The team lost Read the rest of this entry »

TSS NBA Playoffs Review: The Conference Finals

06.01.09 Written by MZ

And then there were two. Kobe vs. LeBron Dwight.  The Lakers vs. The Magic for the Larry O’Brien trophy.  Both teams won in convincing fashion to seal the deal.  You’d be hard pressed to find too many people who had this matchup a few weeks ago.  Shoot… Pat only had the Cavs not making it after consulting with Vivica, Ms. Cleo & Dionne Warwick about his beloved Celtics.  On the bright side David Stern & Phil Knight won’t have to hear conspiracy theories on the Read the rest of this entry »

TSS NBA Playoffs Review: The First Round

05.04.09 Written by MZ

With the Hawks dispatching of the Heat yesterday, the first round of the NBA Playoffs came to a close.  The Rockets finally got out of the first round (so did Carmelo) and the Celtics barely made it out.  Detroit witnessed the end of an era and it may not have hit them yet; but San Antonio could have as well.  The Lakers found little trouble with Utah and Orlando prevailed in tough series.

We saw many a great games and the second round should produce even more.  But before we move ahead we’ll see how everyone did with their first round predictions.  Time to see who knew what they were talking about and who was misled by talking heads.

Patrick M. lead the way by picking all eight series’ correctly, as well as 3 series lengths.  MZ picked seven correctly.  S. Cadet picked six correctly and Jesse H. got five.

So the standings are as follows (correct team – 1 point. correct length – 1/2 point):

Patrick M. – 9 1/2 points

MZ – 7 1/2 points

S. Cadet – 7 points

Jesse H. – 6 points
