Deron Williams & Paul George Liven Up Pacers-Nets Game

02.01.12 Written by Ben Lampin

It’s been a great week for dunks, to say the least. LeBron James jumped over John Lucas III on Sunday. Blake Griffin “Mozgov’d” Kendrick Perkins just a day later. But there’s no rest for the NBA faithful – the highlights just keep coming. Read the rest of this entry »

Deron Williams, Nets Ice Sixers In OT 97-90

01.26.12 Written by S.Cadet

The sun doesn’t shine much on the Nets these days. Deron Williams is practically working as a temporary employee and he’s put up some stinkers so far. However something clicked in his dominant performance in the embers of last night’s game against the Sixers. Read the rest of this entry »

Full Court Press: How One Pick Clipped The Atlanta Hawks’ Wings

New Atlanta Hawks owner Alex Meruelo recently said he intended to bring a chip to Atlanta under his reign. He didn’t give an ETA on his claim what with the lockout on top of the team’s current makeup. At any rate, his statement isn’t off the norm. Lofty goals are often championed by new owners impassioned with their brand new club. Read the rest of this entry »

Checkmate, Prokhorov: Deron Williams Traded To The Nets

02.23.11 Written by Patrick M.

No doubt that ‘Melo to the Knicks will get more hype as no one disputes that the Knicks are still the darling franchise of the NYC. But this week may ultimately be remembered as the week Mikhail Prokhorov launched the Nets back towards respectability while simultaneously making life more difficult for his crosstown rivals. The 2011 NBA All-Stars: Picks Vs. Snubs

02.07.11 Written by S.Cadet

Ahh, the All-Star selections. It’s this time of year where a collective groan lets out from basketball nerds across the internet. This year’s ASG rosters has some good picks, but they leave much to be desired as usual. More importantly, there isn’t much leeway for replacement picks so far. All the players involved are either healthy or expected to heal from injuries, outside of the dubious fan vote for Yao Ming. That means there’s a bunch of “maybe next year” denial letters to hand out when the break rolls around. Read the rest of this entry »

TSS 2010 NBA Playoff Preview: Western Conference Semi-Finals – Los Angeles Lakers Vs. Utah Jazz

05.02.10 Written by TSSCrew

Four wins down, 12 to go. If you’re into math, that’s 25% of the way home to being crowned the H.T.I.C. of the NBA. For some, the first four wins were essentially a cake walk. For others, scratching, clawing and the sheer grace of the ghost of James Naismith are the reason they’ve advanced to the round of eight.

Regardless, you’re here. And that’s all that really matters.

Since Mike played his last game as a Chicago Bull in June of 1998, David Stern’s league and the power that came with it have rested in the west. It is a conference of big men, agile guards and competition trumping that of their eastern counterparts. The 2004 Detroit Pistons, 2006 Miami Heat and 2008 Boston Celtics were the only exceptions to the rule. Other than that, the Lakers and Spurs have presented themselves was kings of the court winning eight combined titles since 1999. Even with the league’s MVP resting in the Eastern Conference, the Western Conference could very well continue their dominance with the emergence of the already coined “team of the future,” the Oklahoma City Thunder.

We’re getting ahead of ourselves though. There is a series set to kickoff in Hollywood.

Los Angeles Lakers Vs. Utah Jazz

Playing without several of their top players, the Jazz are running off heart – and behind the league’s best point guard in Deron Williams. If Jerry Sloan’s crew can keep their head above water until Game 3 (i.e. at least take one in L.A.), the return of Andrei Kirilenko could be big. The Jazz can find solace in knowing they can potentially dictate the tempo of the series with Williams having the supreme advantage over the Lakers point guards. And Boozer is coming off a stellar first round series, including a 22/20 performance in the Game 6 clincher versus Denver.  All that’s standing in their way is that 14 game losing streak at the Staples Center.

But the Lakers are the Lakers and beating them four times in a seven game series isn’t exactly the easiest task to accomplish. Especially when you consider the Lakers have won 77% of their games since acquiring the Pau Gasol a few seasons ago. The Spaniard and Odom are the size that the Jazz do not have and Phil Jackson probably will look to expose this from the opening tip. Even more so than consistent help off the bench, Ron Artest has to be more of an offensive threat as completely disappeared at times in their opening round series. And like him or not, Kobe Bryant is still one of the best players on the planet and arguably the best closer in the game.

So That’s Where The Bailout Money Went

03.06.10 Written by MZ

It’s good to see that injuries and playing for the Clippers hasn’t dampened Baron’s happy go lucky personality.  He must also love the fact that by this time of the year the Clips are officially out of the playoff race & he can pursue his outside interests.  Last year it was Made In America & now it’s Boom’s Beard.  I don’t even know where to begin because this video is pure comedy from the moment he’s pouring Powerade into a champagne flute while wearing a smoking jacket.  The video is on point throughout and it’s a wonder dude hasn’t made an appearance on SNL yet.  His comedic timing is impeccable.

Shout out to Deron Williams for coming through and reppin’ the Boom Beard lite.  So act fast to take advantage of the recession price cut and get your own bottle of Deron Williams’ texturizer kit in the process.

Boom’s Beard: A deal at twice the price.  But don’t take my word for it, see for yourself.

TSS NBA Playoffs Review: The Conference Finals

And then there were two. Kobe vs. LeBron Dwight.  The Lakers vs. The Magic for the Larry O’Brien trophy.  Both teams won in convincing fashion to seal the deal.  You’d be hard pressed to find too many people who had this matchup a few weeks ago.  Shoot… Pat only had the Cavs not making it after consulting with Vivica, Ms. Cleo & Dionne Warwick about his beloved Celtics.  On the bright side David Stern & Phil Knight won’t have to hear conspiracy theories on the Read the rest of this entry »

TSS NBA Playoffs Review: The First Round

05.04.09 Written by MZ

With the Hawks dispatching of the Heat yesterday, the first round of the NBA Playoffs came to a close.  The Rockets finally got out of the first round (so did Carmelo) and the Celtics barely made it out.  Detroit witnessed the end of an era and it may not have hit them yet; but San Antonio could have as well.  The Lakers found little trouble with Utah and Orlando prevailed in tough series.

We saw many a great games and the second round should produce even more.  But before we move ahead we’ll see how everyone did with their first round predictions.  Time to see who knew what they were talking about and who was misled by talking heads.

Patrick M. lead the way by picking all eight series’ correctly, as well as 3 series lengths.  MZ picked seven correctly.  S. Cadet picked six correctly and Jesse H. got five.

So the standings are as follows (correct team – 1 point. correct length – 1/2 point):

Patrick M. – 9 1/2 points

MZ – 7 1/2 points

S. Cadet – 7 points

Jesse H. – 6 points

Well, the games are underway and our first round picks are locked in for posterity & scrutiny.  So before things get too far along, here are how we see things playing out in the later rounds.  Not much to get into, as the picks speak for themselves.  Needless to say, when we came to the fork in the road: some went right, some went straight, some went left and some went to have themselves checked in.
