Rudy Fernandez’s No-Look, Over-The-Head Alley-Oop To Kenneth Faried Was Pretty Awesome

01.05.12 Written by Ben Lampin

Kenneth Faried’s finish, fundamentally, is the craziest part of this clip. The young man from Morehead State scored his first two NBA points in spectacular fashion Wednesday night in the team’s 110-83 victory over the Sacramento Kings, rising up to dunk a ball that was, as the Nuggets’ color-commentator says, floating up by the square on the backboard. Denver’s Ty Lawson Goes Insane From Beyond The Arc, Hits 10 Three-Pointers

04.10.11 Written by Ben Lampin

At this point in the season, NBA teams and fans alike are just waiting for the playoffs to start. Teams are jogging to the finish, trying to make it to the second season without major injury or turmoil of any kind. Fans are tuned out of most games, as teams with nothing to play for expend as little energy as is humanly possible. Needless to say, this time of year doesn’t always produce the most exciting basketball but you never know what’s going to happen in an NBA game. Read the rest of this entry »

Chauncey Billups Goes All Kareem Abdul Jabbar On Us

01.27.11 Written by J. Tinsley

The one person I always felt sympathy for in the entire Carmelo Anthony trade saga was not Carmelo. It was Chauncey Billups. Over the years, I’ve grown to respect, admire and enjoy watching “Mr. Big Shot” carve his own niche in the league. He’s a Denver product who actually relished playing in the city and honestly did not want to leave. Read the rest of this entry »

J.R. Smith Continues To Turn Tricks On The Spurs

12.23.10 Written by TC

The San Antonio Spurs may be virtually unbeatable but J.R. Smith still has their number when it comes to posterizing the defenders. Last time, it was Gary Neal who was victim to an aerial attack. Now, Timmy D. gets frozen in his stance as J.R. simply spins past him—in the air. Read the rest of this entry »

The Indiana Pacers Do More In The 3rd Quarter Than Most Ballers Do All Game

11.10.10 Written by TC

Last night against the Denver Nuggets, the Indiana Pacers made their first 20 shots in the 3rd quarter and went on to score 54-points for the period. You have to ask yourself what’s more impressive: a team that can come out of halftime with fire shooting from their fingertips or you can actually name a single Pacer. Read the rest of this entry »

TSS 2010 NBA Playoff Preview: The First Round – Part One

04.17.10 Written by TSSCrew

It’s time for the NBA playoffs and it couldn’t have come at a better time.  Baseball’s just warming up & a few months from warranting paying attention to it.  Only thing popping off with football is the draft & spring practices in college.  Hockey’s playoffs have begun, but you can’t even find those games on TV if you wanted to.  The Lakers appear to be in prime position to repeat, but there are capable teams in both conferences standing in the wings & waiting to take it off their hands.  Which makes the NBA playoffs the hot ticket, the intensity picks as the O’Brien trophy is the ultimate prize. Follow The Bouncing Ball

03.13.10 Written by Gotty™

I didn’t watch very much basketball this week. I was in full disgruntled mode after Syracuse took the L (again) versus Louisville last weekend and the Orange turned around to lose against arch rival Georgetown in the Big East tournament. After those two losses, I didn’t care if the word “basketball” was eliminated from the English language. I’m not even worried about my bracket. I’m pissed my favorite squad’s momentum is headed in the wrong direction @ the most inopportune time of year and their starting center is looking hobbled. Read the rest of this entry »

Video: J.R. Smith Dunks On Omri Casspi

02.02.10 Written by Gotty™

Fresh out of Coach Karl’s doghouse, J.R. Smith is wasting no time making his presence felt on the court and attempting to be a positive member of the team. Omri Casspi probably wishes Smith had been suspended, at least for last night’s game, after being on the receiving end of this dunk.

Stop Picking On DJ Mbenga!

11.14.09 Written by J. Tinsley

I’m not sure how many of you actually hoop on the regular, but for the usual blacktop inhabitants, you know it’s that one big guy who isn’t really athletic. Since he’s the first guy on the court to know when it rains, you figure he can at least grab a few rebounds. Soon after you start playing, however, you realize this guy isn’t a benefit; he’s more like a liability. Well, my friends, this is NOT DJ Mbenga. Sure, Blake Griffin baptized him a few weeks ago and UNC legend, Ty Lawson, made him (and Josh Powell) an instant YouTube clip.

But you know what? I blame it on his teammates. I’m not exactly sure how it’s their fault yet, but when I figure it out I’ll report back to you. I’m still holding out hope the basketball lovers of America will find the good in themselves to get Lamar Odom’s best man (I hear he was actually IN the wedding) a trip to Dallas for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game. CP3, Kobe, Kevin Durant, Amare…and MBENGA. Sounds unfair to the East, right?

On second thought, DJ, you keep doing stuff like this, it’s going to make it harder for me to argue your case.

At least he’s not “Sideshow Bob.”

TSS 2009 NBA Preview: Western Conference

10.26.09 Written by TSSCrew

The NBA is ready to launch another Donaghy-free season and we couldn’t be happier. TSS is kicking things off with the Western Conference and we’ll swing out East in the ensuing preview. All eyes are on Kobe and QB’s finest small forward in Ron Artest to repeat for LA. Don’t get us started on Lamar and Sasquatch Kardashian. On the other end of the spectrum Blake Griffin is due for some posters and looks to be a shoe in for Rookie of the Year. Greg Oden has another year to prove he’s not a modern day Sam Bowie and AI is looking to breathe new life in his career in Memphis of all places. Peep our ruminations on the wild west as we anticipate your disapproval in the comments. Read the rest of this entry »

TSS NBA Playoffs Review: The Conference Finals

06.01.09 Written by MZ

And then there were two. Kobe vs. LeBron Dwight.  The Lakers vs. The Magic for the Larry O’Brien trophy.  Both teams won in convincing fashion to seal the deal.  You’d be hard pressed to find too many people who had this matchup a few weeks ago.  Shoot… Pat only had the Cavs not making it after consulting with Vivica, Ms. Cleo & Dionne Warwick about his beloved Celtics.  On the bright side David Stern & Phil Knight won’t have to hear conspiracy theories on the Read the rest of this entry »

Game 5 Is Game 7…

05.27.09 Written by MZ

It’s pretty simple. If Denver wins tonight, the series is theirs. If L.A. wins tonight the series is (more than likely) theirs. Nuggets coach George Karl knows & relayed this to his team.

“My focus to our players is that this is our must-win game, almost as much as Game 4 was,” Denver coach George Karl said the day after his team had an impressive, 120-101 beatdown of Los Angeles. “You want to win there in Game 5 because history is against you in Game 7. — George Karl

Video: J.R. Smith Is A One-Man Gang

05.26.09 Written by Gotty™

I am not a gang aficionado of any sort. I know a lot of people who claim to be gang members and know even fewer who put in work in the name of a gang. But as I browse the net this morning, I’m reading various writers & (Lakers) forums up in arms because “J.R. Smith flashed a gang sign” versus the Lakers in last night’s Game 4. Sure, it’s the “gang sign” that’s got them angry, not the way he was raining 3′s on the Kobes last night.

I was watching the game and didn’t get that feeling that it was gang-related at all. Granted, he’s had a short but eventful career in the League, he’s inked Read the rest of this entry »
