Yesterday Heaven received another soul who departed from us way too soon. Arturo “Thunder” Gatti, the former USBA Super Featherweight Champion of the World, died from “trauma” to the head while in Brazil honeymooning with his second wife.

En route to my first cookout today, I was asleep in the passenger seat when Juan called. “They just found Steve McNair dead in downtown.” This was approximately twenty minutes after the news broke. Immediately after, I’ve received numerous emails & calls about his death & the circumstances. Honestly, the word I keep using to describe me reaction to it is “salty.”

When the Titans came to Nashville & with their subsequent success, Steve McNair gave the city an alternate face to display. It was a face different from the usual Country music icons that everyone not from here knew the city and that was a blessing. It was, of course, a Black face so that made it even sweeter. Regardless of color, the majority of middle Tennessee embraced him. Stuck with him, even during the Titans struggles & his D.U.I. arrest.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one…

A woman and her husband walk into an airport. They miss their flight home from a Brazilian vacation. The Air France jet takes off and disappears with it’s 288 passengers into the wild blue yonder, while the woman and her husband land happily ever after on a later flight.

Epilogue: The woman dies in a car crash a few days later.

Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from the Bolzano-Bozen Province (South Tyrol), and her husband Kurt, were vacationing in Brazil and missed Air France flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on June 1. The couple took a flight to Europe later that day.

The car veered off the road near Kufstein, Austria, killing Johanna.

Yesterday, I failed to put up a tribute post I had scribbled for the anniversary of the passing of Tupac Amaru Shakur because I was traveling.

He passed 12 years and 1 day ago, and I pray his soul is still resting in absolute peace.

Hoping to catch a few tributes while in the car yesterday, I lifted my ban on radio and scanned through the so-called “Hip-Hop” stations. During the several hours I spent in that vehicle, I was slightly awed not to hear a mention of his name, let alone a single track. Read the rest of this entry »

I’ll keep it simple because it’s already been two days and there are just as many questions as there are answers. You always wonder why bad things happen to good people, especially when they’re trying to get their life in order. But the world is filled with crazy people and when you’re trying to get things in by slowing your actions down, it only makes what goes on around you go even faster.

So with that being said, R.I.P Phil and I’m praying that this was a wrong place at the wrong time type of deal. Being around you and watching you pour your free time into understanding your faith, I’m not worried about your resting place. Just know that you’re missed here and you will be remembered.
