The iPod Shuffle – Audio Two’s “Top Billin’” (Danger Mouse Air Remix)

01.31.12 Written by Beware

Back when I was casually growing my vinyl collection for no real reason, I bought a box of used records from a former friend who’d found them outside an evicted apartment. Although I felt bad about the way I’d gotten them, the exquisite selection I’d come up on for a measly $30 bucks was unfathomable. Read the rest of this entry »

First Listen: Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi’s Rome

05.09.11 Written by TSSCrew

NPR:

“The long-anticipated brainchild of producer Danger Mouse and Italian composer Daniele Luppi, Rome benefits from a bit of context. More than five years in the making, the project assembles many of the surviving performers of classic ’60s and ’70s Ennio Morricone scores — and, in half a dozen memorable cases, pairs them up with the vocals of Norah Jones or The White Stripes’ Jack White. Broken Bells – “Windows”

03.11.11 Written by Gotty™

Broken Bells – composed of Danger Mouse and the Shins’ James Mercer – will release their four-track EP, Meyrin Fields, later this month, including the first leak, “Windows.” Originally recorded during the Broken Bells sessions, the tracks aren’t leftovers, but said to be ones that may not have fit alongside the original material. Still, receiving “Windows” remains a consolation prize for having missed the chance to speak with Mouse at Monday’s show.

The Life And Times Of MF DOOM

01.30.11 Written by David D.

Flash back to 2004. Young(er) David D. was a freshman in college and became one of those people that goes off, gets educated and feels too smart for what everyone else is in to. That meant strapping on a backpack and listening to everything underground. My iPod was full of albums like Wordsworth’s Mirror Music and Masta Ace’s Long Hot Summer. But above all, I was an MF DOOM stan. Read the rest of this entry »

Broken Bells – “Vaporize”

03.22.10 Written by TSSCrew

Written by K. Barrett

It’s always exciting when two musicians of entirely different genres team up. Thus is Broken Bells, Danger Mouse’s recent collaboration with Shins’ front man, James Mercer. Expectedly, the duo’s self-titled debut is a hipster’s wet dream. The disc employs all the fashionable nostalgia indie kids love with a touch of hip-hop credibility. But as Burton proved with the Black Keys’ Attack and Release, it’s possible to be both cool and genuine simultaneously. His affinity for ‘the strange’ turns out to be a good match for Mercer’s deeply heartfelt and abstract lyricism. Read the rest of this entry »
