Let us touch briefly on the irony that a video dropping damn near nine months late is called “Patience.” Now let’s move on, because Nas and Damian’s video is too dope for us to harp on the old stuff.

It could visually be compared to Marco Brambilla’s work with Mr. West coupled with a twist of Frank Miller and a dash Eminem’s “White America.” It could… but it shouldn’t be. Anytime we initially see too many other people’s ideas in a work of art, we eventually realize we’re not looking at a hybrid but an individual force further empowered by the polished use of yesteryear’s tools. Need an example? Think 808s and Heartbreak. So this time lets skip the middleman and cut right to the part where we dig the shit.

If you haven’t heard the track by now you never planned on listening to it, but quiet as kept, “Patience” was one of the strongest tracks on the Jones and Marley collabo album. With this video, director Nibal seems to literally paint a picture of the song’s ideas, with results that push the long-awaited visual beyond Hip Hop’s contemporary video protocols.

Off that Smoke N Mirrors album & featuring Damian Jr. Gong Marley.

West coast Hip-Hop has seemed to pick up it’s pace again in the last year or so with the help of newcomers such Blu, Jay Rock, and Crooked I being extremely viral with their artist marketing. But it’s the legends from the Left Coast that seem to keep it’s heart beating through the ups and downs. E-40, Cube, and any rapper affiliated with the Dogg Pound have all been present on the Hip-Hop scene in the last few, but one of the crews that have been noticeably absent is the cannabis loving, Latin Hip-Hop group Cypress Hill, who were just honored last year by VH1 on Hip Hop Honors.

Consequently, the group’s most distinguishable voice, B-Real is poised to drop his first solo effort in his 15+ years in the game, Smoke N Mirrors. The album while a far cry from his Cypress days production-wise, still maintains that hazy feel of a room infiltrated with second-hand blunt ashes. Muggs doesn’t show up with a beat on the entire album but the capable hands of The Alchemist, Soopafly, J-Turner and even B-Real himself take upon themselves to usher in the P-Funk.
